Harkit?
I noticed in a recent post someone mentioned Harkit was a bootleg label. Is it? I've quite a few Harkit releases and apart from Modesty Blaise the sound quality is ok, especially happy with Klute. Anyone else know their legitimacy?

HARKIT publishes a number of legitimate soundtrack/rock reissues. Their KLUTE record, however, is a bootleg just like the
Warner Bros. version since no contract was ever signed for a legitimate commercial release.

I agree I ended up buying the Harkit Klute soundtrack release from a seller on amazon.com just to look into all the naysayers stating that Klute was not a bootleg and all I can say is that if you consider the back cover artowrk and CD artwork top notch non-bootlegged looking then you need an eye exam you should also go seek a hardcore collector to explain why the release was a bootleg. While many tracks sounded good on the CD - some actually sound very distorted. Sound wise it was a mixed bag but the presentation was really bad it was an obivous bootleg DOWN to the TYPOS in the notes inside the booklet! SCREAMS bootleg anyone who thinks it isn't you've been had TYPOS and Bad Art usually = BOOTLEG!

Actually the original vinyl pressing from the late 1970's has very fine sound quality without any track titles given on either the jacket or label. I've seen the scan of the Harkit release and prefer the original cover design over their pressing.
As for the term bootleg. I consider it at times harsh taking into account some of the so called bootlegs are of such exceptional quality.
When I think of bootleg recordings I usually think of cheaply made reproductions of mass marketed junk sold on truck stop racks in places like Louisville Kentucky.

COMA We don't need yet another discussion the quality of the release is very medocre I do own other European label releases. For example if I had never heard any of the info based on Harkit or any posts ever, and I ordered up a copy of this CD and rec;d it after opening it I would think well the back cover is very stock photo and poorly excuted.. NO WAY in Hell Warner Bros. had anything to do with it. The front is so so paper stock is not very good. Then you look at the horible looking Picture on CD that doesn't work well at all. Then you start reading the booklet and there are typos! So all in all you can call this a legit release but don't call it good quality. It isn't it is fine to have until we get something better. Sorry you aren't use to a good quality soundtrack release to compare it to COMA but you have to admit it isn't up to par with soimething Prometheous would have released in Europe. I was just dissapointed with it. Sound is so so depending on the tracks. I am glad I have it but it isn't legit.
Thanks again, Jack

Oh and BTW COMA how old are you 12? Your responses and input are childish at best. What is next I Know you are but What am I? and BTW I have NO problem ordering from any of the Euro lables as long as it is a good quality product even if it costs me 40.00 bucks. The release must be released in the best possible way or don't waste anyone's time. I'm sure you'd be mad as hell if you got a release of a soundtrack poorly made after you'd been looking forward to it for so long.
If Harkit used the former really OLD LP for the Klute release ok that is fine but they could at least get an editor to go over their liner notes and do some better artwork through out the booklet and the back cover. Is that too much to ask?
I think not. I'm sure many others agree.
Thanks Jack
