Question

Anyone else slowed by this Kontera thing ??

Dear fellow members,

has it also happened to you in the past few days that everytime when you load a new page here in Soundtrackcollector, the computer slows down for a few seconds, then few random words on the page do get green and underlined with a link to some bloody Kontera website or something ?? It's frustrating how it slows opening of each page - it annoys me to the extent that I close Soundtrackcollector because it's becoming too painful to use.

I have not noticed the computer slowing down, no.
Perhaps it depends on your speed.

Same problem over here since a day or two.
Even flipping backwards through pages
I have just read before is very slow now.

???

I do get the green underlined words as well guys but the computer behaves as it did before with no unusual delays... nothing out of the norm... sorry.

I'm assuming these underlined green words (sort of annoying) is something of an added feature here in Sountrack Collector (even though most of the linked websites are irrelavent to film music) which in turn sort of fund the website?

It appears that Soundtrackcollector.com is now a sort of spyware paradise. The slow down is that it's searching for key words to make you want to click. I noticed this today and made sure that it was not my computer infected with Spyware (this happened to me before) where the browser is hijacked by a program which forces links. I went to other sites and checked to make sure it was the site not my computer. YES IT DOES SLOW DOWN THE PAGES LOADING ETC!

Edit: The words "Searching" and "Spyware" come up as links within this message now!

Ton are you out there?

I, too, was alarmed by the "embedded advertising" that suddenly popped up on the site, so the other day I e-mailed Ton about this "problem" because I thought that perhaps the site had been hijacked by spyware/adware, and this was his response:

"Hello Josh,

They are authorized. We do a test with a new kind of advertising.
We have to do that, because we have a very expensive site and we need to try to make some money with this kind of advertising.

We have a lot of enthusiastic members who track their collection on our site, who visit us daily to look if something new has shown up, who have a lot of discussions on our forum, but who not even think of a (little) donation to support us.

That's why.

Regards,

Ton Werkman
SoundtrackCollector.com"

Personally, I am not at all comfortable with this type of "advertising", as I find it rather insidious and deceitful. From now on there will now be one less freeloader haunting these forums.

See you in cyberspace, amigos...

I don't like it either...I believe it reduces soundtrackcollector's high quality.

Don`t go Josh !! Its not decietful but it would of helped a little if Ton had mentioned this before he went ahead. No one is forcing you to buy from clicking the links of course, and im sure you`ll get used to it before long. Give it a chance..........

Message to all concerned members.

We did a test with this kind of advertising, because - as we say here in Holland, our chimneys have to smoke.;-)
But, just like you all, we are not happy with the results.
That's why we have decided to stop today with this test.

Thank you Ton. I can understand that it is expensive to run a site like this.

Have you considered donations - setting through a PayPal account?

In some ways I'm sure a lot of us feel that we are donating by giving information to the site. But there are expenses on keeping it going.

I believe you are entitled to try every avenue of covering the costs. Unfortunately this test was unsuccessful. I'm sure there are other ways to add advertising to the site which is less insidious!
