Frank Cordell - GOD TOLD ME TO aka DEMON - Score
Hi!
Has anybody Frank Cordell's score for the Larry Cohen movie "DEMON" or "GOD TOLD ME TO", which came out in 1976/1977?
I know there's an LP version of this amazing orchestral soundtrack out there, published by Phoenix Records, with one side "Demon"-score, and the other side with more rare works by Frank Cordell (who died 1980):
Phoenix DGS-1004 - F LPL2K
This LP came out in 1981 or 1984.
Best wishes,
Günther Gerlach

Sadly I didn´t have it.
I remember that Cordell re-recorded this suite especially for the LP. Man, this would be a great CD!

I bet we get it somewhere, as a few copies exist.
This score was so fine, but the movie equally obscure, so let's hope somebody answers. I guess a lot of people have it on their wish list in the backlist of their minds. Problem is, the soundtrack of "God told me to" is not the first thing to think of.
Recently the movie was re-released widely on DVD, so maybe also the score made some new fans.

Yes, I hope you right. At least this is a film a by Larry Cohen and has a cult following.
Did you know that Cordell was the third composer for this? First choice was Bernard Herrmann (who died before shooting), the second Miklos Rozsa (who refused).
Cordell also recorded (like Alex North) a score for 2001.
I´ve heard that Cordell has kept copies of his film recordings which were now in the possession of his widow.

Thanks for that information!
Sounds like a job for Film Score Monthly, doesn't it? A 2-Disc edition at least. If only Cordell had something popular in his oeuvre, but all the films are forgotten.
By the way, Rozsa passed on the scoring assignment with the words:
"God told me not to."
But later did "J. Edgar Hoover" for Cohen.
Those hard to find british film composers.
Recently I gave up searching for a complete score of Carl Davis' "Frankenstein Unbound".
It's pretty strange: I remember as a teenager holding the CD in my hands in a music store, but didn't buy it. I'm punishing myself for that to this day. The strange thing: It doesn't even exist as an album - at least that's what everyone says. But I'm absolutely sure they had it in stock. Even remember the cover artwork. Now, is there an error in the matrix?

@ Günther
If I remember correctly, Gold Told Me To was produced by New World and I believe is owned by Warner now. But I don´t believe that they have the master tapes. At least FSM released Khartoum and Mosquito Squadron.
I like Frankenstein Unbound (I´m usually not a big fan of Davis´music) and to my knowledge there was only a boot and a re-recordes suite on a Silva sampler.
@ John
Is it true, that Mrs. Cordell had a very bad experience with a so called record producer?
