Hi,
Well, to be honest, I'm not familair with his work. I only have one of his scores: The Devil's Backbone. Untill recent I never really listened to this score. I bought it because I liked the movie.
A few weeks ago I even almost sold the soundtrack, but the interested party never reacted to my proposal.
Last week I decided to listen to it properly and now I'm very glad I didn't sell it!! What a beautifull score. I really would like to hear more form this composer. What other scores do you recommend?
Regards,
Erik

Response to Javier Navarrete

I have got several CDs by this strange but fascinating composer. I like all of them: SUSANNA (1996), EL MAR (2000), EL ESPINAZO DEL DIABLO (2001), TRECE CAMPANADAS (2002) and specially STRANDED (2001).

Regards,

Ángel

Other scores of his I reccomend? "Stranded", most definitely. Truly one of the best scores I've ever heard. Somber and sometimes moving, track 13 and 15 are amongst the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. See my review of the album for more details. It's a pretty rare CD, but I got it cheap off Ebay a while back. And I'm glad you enjoyed his score to "Devil's Backbone"; I have not yet seen the movie but I recently ordered the CD and your comments have definitely rekindled my enthusiasm.
Cheers.

I am looking very much forward to his score for the new Guillermo Del Toro film Pan's Labyrint... hope it will be better accessible than Devil's Backbone - I liked some parts very much in the film, but the others seems a bit like television film and hold it back :( Hope he will do even better with Pan :)

I've known that Navarrete's music from PAN'S LABYRINTH (El Laberinto del Fauno) will be performed life in a symphonic concert hosted at Úbeda (Spain) in a few days.

This event is included in a series of concerts that will feature Basil Poledouris conducting his music for CONAN THE BARBARIAN, John Ottman premiering his SUPERMAN RETURNS score, John Debney conducting THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST and some of Jerry Goldsmith's best works (Jerry's widow, Carol Goldsmith, will be attending this hommage concert), and some other important composers conducting their own music for films.

Petrkocanda, if you travel to Spain and attend these wonderful concerts, you'll be able to listen to the PAN'S LABYRINTH score even before the CD was in the stores...

Thanks for the tip. I have just bought Stranded on Ebay, very nicely priced by the way. Can't wait to listen to it.
