Question

Biloxi Blues

I'm after the song in the film that contains the lyrics "somewhere there's music....." it plays when the soldiers are on the way for training while on the train and while Eugene dances with his girlfriend. I've tried looking at the listing of the web but the song itself is not called "somewhere there's music". It must be a 30's or 40's song.

Well, the old Les Paul and Mary Ford song, HOW HIGH THE MOON (circa 1951) began with those lyrics; plenty of great guitar in that one ........

Thanks so much! Can't believe how fast I got the response!
The Pat Suzuki version is the one I wanted - it's just sublime.
Once again, thankyou!!

I just had to chime in on this superbly entertaining movie. I can not find the entire sound track for Biloxi Blues save the fact that one can buy it. It is not on any free or monthly pay for music source i.e Napster or Rhapsody. Just not there. "How High The Moon," contributed to a lovely scene between Jerome and Daisy. This is just a terrific movie. The soundtrack includes Irving Berlin himself singing "Goodbye dear I'll be back in a year," a very catchy tune. In addition, there are lots of wonderful tunes by the "King of Swing" Benny Goodman. Biloxi Blues is one of those terrifically entertaining movies we can watch over and over again. Wanting to watch a movie over again is THE test for what makes a great movie. Biloxi has it all. A terrifically and wonderfully skilled ensemble of men and women (Penelope Ann Miller) as Daisy and yet my personal favorite and the one who steals the show is Matt Mulhern as the loveable Bully Joseph Wykowski. Of course Matthew Broderick is terrific as he plays his part flawlessly. Broderick was always "a natural" Then we cannot forget the one and only Christopher Walken as Seargent Merwyn J Toomey. If there is anyone in show business as unique as Walken, I don't know of him. Walken's voice alone is just fabulous to listen to. As Walken learns that he is being sent to an Army hospital to have work done on his head, he takes Jerome into his room. Walken plays drunk and has a loaded pistol in his hand. Yet, we see in this scene Broderick play calm, while Walken had no intention of shooting anyone. At the end justice prevails as Walken is ordered to do 200 pushups in the rain, in front of his Platoon. 3.5 stars for a terrific movie. S M
