Musk Oil Commercial
In the 70's there was a commercial for Jovan's Musk Oil (a fragrance). The music was very distinctive and I think it was by Vangelis - it was synthesizer based. I'd really like to know the name of the track that was used. As I recall it repeated a low and then a high note when it began

It doesn't sound like Vangelis but this is too funny!...
Sorry I can't be of help but *Brut* and *Old Spice* were more memorable to me.
Anyway, I'll ask sexy Harriet the neighborhood 'Avon Lady' and let you know, she might know the answer to your question.
Too bad you did not ask this question a few years ago. I was dining in the same restaurant with Vangelis. I could have easily walked up to him to ask him this.
I'm not quite sure what his response might have been though but I'm glad I did not know to ask.
Remember *Canoe*?...

"There was a young man named McNair, Whose cologne did defile the air. Women with him
were brusk, Until he tried Jovan Musk, And now he gets more than his share."
Any questions concerning Chanel?

If you're still online or for anyone interested and in the mood for some fun Saturday summer night groovy dance beats, smooth jazz and lounge music check out this link I stumbled upon:

Some cool music being played on the 'Illinois Street Lounge' station which I'm listening to with Winamp right now.
The wonderful world of cyberspace!
Cheers!! ;- )

Hi Coma and Serifiot,
Alas no, this was not the music I heard in the 70's (playing on their site currently). It had a far more sweeping, soaring sound landscape and was very electronic in texture. I'm fairly sure about Vangelis or J M Jarre or the likes of them.
Thanks for having a bash at it - I've scoured the net without success.
Any more thoughts?

Hi Lance,
Why not contacting Jovan directly? Perhaps their marketing or press department could offer an
insight. The company has been sold some times and now belongs to Coty. They have a direct
contact form on their site: www.coty.com
Cheers,

Hi Lance!
To be quite honest, I thought your question was meant as a joke or a prank post question.
IS IT???...
My apologies for perhaps sounding a little distrusting but what possessed your memory to remember the music from such an old... 70's commercial out of all things?
What does this music have to do with film scores anyway?
Did you recently splash yourself with some old 'Jovan Musk Oil' and suddenly became enraptured by memories of the glorious '70's?
I hope you did not drink it... or smoke either!!
This will definitely entrance your mind in hearing some type of electronique Vangelis/Jean Michelle Jarre new age music as well as other psychedelic phenomena I'm not in the mood to get into.
In what country you remember this commercial from?
Sometimes the music in commercials varies from country to country.
Anyway... welcome to S.C.
It was fun!

Indeed, a sincere question, though extremely obscure. Putting together a compilation of soundbites and tracks that somehow have stuck in my mind during my childhood - old radio broadcasts, music from that era etc. Nostalgic sort of thing - and somehow, this radio / TV commercial came to mind. Will contact Coty - thanks for the idea. It was in South Africa that I heard the commercial. Thanks for your welcome to SC. As you can see - very much a novice at this kind of forum.

PS Enjoyed the banter nevertheless

Good luck! Post any positive info u might get for this nostalgic piece of commercial music. I'm curious to know.
serifiot, July 29, 2006; 11:16 PM

Hi Coma and Serifiot,
I've managed to record the beginning of the the piece on piano (as best I could recall it) and save it as a wav file.
You can hear it at: http://www.geocities.com/lancejcarr/music/Musk_Oil.wav
Perhaps this will get us somewhere.
Still somewhat obscure I fear.
Regards,
Lance

It is just over 2 weeks since I was possessed to go on this insane search to discover a missing piece of the puzzle of my childhood. Resolution at last!!!
The piece is Chung Kuo by Vangelis on his China album. The section I recall begins at exactly 1 min 44 seconds in and I believe was used in the original Jovan Musk Oil commercial.
Q&A on Yahoo came in handy - amazed that somebody knew.
Thanks for joining me on the journey.
Cheers,
Lance
