High Road To China by John Barry
SCCD/Didgeridoo 1030
SCSE CD-2
What is the difference and which has the best sound? What about the Super Tracks release? Is there more music? What about the sound on Super Tracks?
Which one should I get? I'm confused! :- (

Hi sushi,
These are the differences:
SCSE CD-2 was a limited edition of 750 Gold and 2000 "normal" CDs, each individually
numbered. A very nice collectors item.
SCCD 1030 is the rerelease (unlimited, unnumbered) which contains the same material in
the same excellent quality.
SUPERTRACKS version is an official "promo" release which contains additional source cues
which - in my opinion - are just mediocre and uninspired saloon music. Being a big fan of
John Barry, I didn't find these necessary to have.
Hope I could cure the confusion a little!

Thanks! Do you know of a decent price range for this SCSE-2 750 copies limited release by any chance? Do you have one?

Yep, I have them all.. ;-)
Except for the material, both SCSE CD2 releases are the same. Some weeks ago, a member
here had his gold disc on offer. If I remember it right, he was asking about 50$ which would be
an excellent price indeed. The 2000 "normal" copies usually fetch between 35 and 65 Euros
which is still way below "Frances" and "Body Heat" from the same label.

Hello,
I agree with Coma, The extended cd is not as good and the
sound quality is not as high as the other releases.
Best Regards,

O.K., the price seems about the same for the two Southern Cross cd's. I'll settle for the gold then which I thought would be way more expensive. :- )
P.S. Robin & Marian is available on Silva Records which is played by the City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Nic Raine. Is this a good John Barry score? Is there a release with John Barry conducting and a different orchestra playing? I'm curious to know if the track on the Japanese LP listed here is conducted by John Barry.
