Apart from LOTR, which is your HOWARD SHORE favourite score?
I know a lot of people love the scores Howard Shore wrote for THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy. Anyway, I think Mr. Shore has composed some amazing scores that, in many cases, are even more interesting than his work for the adventures of Frodo & friends.
Please, can you chose which is your favourite HOWARD SHORE score apart from LOTR? (Only one, thanks).
My choice is David Cronenberg's CRASH.
Best greetings,
Angel

"Dead Ringers" has some very nice moments!

There are some discs on my shelf I haven't listened to yet, such as NOBODYS FOOL, LOOKING FOR RICHARD or SOUL OF THE ULTIMATE NATION... Of the ones I'm familiar with I'd go for BEFORE AND AFTER (and if you prefer his more "avantgarde" works, listen to THE CELL). And by the way, I didn't like his LORD OF THE RING stuff all too much anyway :-).

Hey! NOBODY'S FOOL is really nice. Listen to the main theme right now!! :-)

I would have to say (Naked Lunch) as far as Howard Shore goes. Score works a fine job bringing appropiate sound together for purpose of enhancing William Burroughs story. No one other than Ornette Coleman and Barre Phillips could have worked as well on that one.
It was one of those moments when sounds I had listened to before becoming interested in film music (Avant Garde/Free Jazz) mutated with big time motion picture score for a most unique listening experience!
As well as (Crash) as mentioned by angeldibujo above. Boy that score has a peculair wickedness about it that really hits the spot!

Oh, yes!! NAKED LUNCH is superb!!
I was lucky enough to be attending the first public concert by Shore, in the late nineties, in Seville (Spain). The performance from NAKED LUNCH was terrific. Also the suite from SEVEN; I haven't listen to something so intense in my whole life.
And for THE LORD OF THE RINGS, I think its music is overrated. Of course it's a good composition, but the composer has far superior works.

Why LOTR ?? My favorite Howard Shore's score is the beautiful ESTHER KAHN.

I personally don't like his Lotr work as much as his other work.
I'd say anything he did for Cronenberg (Most notably for me Crash, Naked Lunch and eXistenZ). I also like his work for David Fincher very much. And THE CEll is another great work too.
Shore just rocks.

Hello,
I don't own many of his scores, But of the ones I do I would have to say "The Aviator" is my pick.

M Butterfly remains for me Shore's best work close to his beautiful Ed Wood .
