Question

Most effective & less bearable soundtrack

Hi everybody!

I was listening to DREAMSCAPE, by Maurice Jarre, and suddenly I've thought there are some scores which are highly effective supporting the film they were composed for, but absolutely unbereable in its CD or LP format.

So that's the question: In your opinion, WHICH IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE BUT LESS BEARABLE SOUNDTRACK EVER COMPOSED FOR A MOVIE?

May be a silly question..., but I have heard a lot of people saying that Goldsmith's PLANET OF THE APES is a great soundtrack but hardly bearable when you listen to it out of the movie. I love it in & out but, for example, DREAMSCAPE is a too hard listening experience for my ears out of the movie.

Thanks for your answers and best greetings,

Angel

I've always considered Planet Of The Apes one of the best. Primitive, futuristic and very original (then and especially now).

As for Dreamscape I've never considered it hard to listen to. As a matter of fact I think it's one of Maurice Jarre's finest electronic scores. Witness I considered a bit boring at the time I first listened to it. Then again during another playing I may not feel that way at all.

As for my favorite electronic score from Maurice Jarre... I'd have to say the music from the film Apology.

Planet Of The Apes was one of the very first scores I purchased and listened to back in 1979. I loved the peculair sounds back then and revisit that one from time to time.

As for least effective, I'd say much of the recent mainsteam Hollywood horseshit from minor league composers (such as Danny Elfman) who seem to create what is expected by the producers and more often than not have very little that is worthwhile to offer to anyone.

Well, I've been very disappointed by THE DARK HALF (Chris Young)...Some like it, I cannot bear.
