Elmer Bernstein Film Music Collection
At last it's now available on CD thanks to FSM. I was never able to get any of the vinyl LP's so I just had to dip my hands deeper into my pocket for this and it is (of course) absolutley brilliant, beautifully recorded and played and in stunning stereo. As a bonus there is Bernsteins' KINGS OF THE SUN which I have been lobbieng for for ages but it's not my favourite that one is Miklos Rozsas' THE THIEF OF BAGDAD .
Who else has got this set and what is their favourite one ?

My box has just arrived yesterday (along with other cool titles from SAE), but I didn't have the time to unseal & listen to it yet. I look forward to all the scores, and THE THIEF OF BAGDAD in particular, because a friend of mine has recently sent me the Rozsa version of this and I'm impatient to hear the Elmer's as well.

I am now going through my second listening of the set. Hard to choose one favorite so far. Some thoughts....
Re: Gunfight at the OK Corral, the vocalist is not "ol leather lungs", but it is a nice recording in its own right. It is interesting to compare it to the rerecording done by the Cincinnati Pops with the original vocalist, although there is more music in the Bernstein version.
Also a side by side of the Gerhardt recording of one cue from Thief of Bagdad and the Bernstein is also fun. I seem to prefer the Bernstein recording.
The whole set is a lot of fun.
