Western soundtracks: which feature "Indian" chants?
Hi there,
I am looking for Western movie soundtracks that contain "Indian" (first [American] nations',
that is) chant music and drum rhythms, something in the style that appears in Horner's
score for Thunderheart (tracks Main title and Ghost dance, in particular).
Any more suggestions in this direction?
Moreover, I am trying to find more of that stereotypical sort of cue that used to accompany
"Indians" in classic Western movies of the 50s and 60s (the sound is hard to describe, but I
am quite sure, you know what I mean).
Any specific hint would be appreciated.

Hello,
For indian chants I think the best western score is Rosenthal's film score from "A Man Called Horse" found on the Ticker Tape Label.
Best Regards,
David Phoenix, AZ.

Thanks to all.
I should have mentioned The-Man-Called-Horse soundtracks myself, since I have two of them.
As for the others, I once participated in an eBay auction for Comanche, but at the end I had to
decide between paying the monthly rent for my flat or to purchase that CD.
As for Shehaweh, I have never heard about the series before. After some research I did not
even find a hint for a soundtrack release. Does it exist?

Gerald Fried's THE MYSTIC WARRIOR is a must.

Yep, from what I have heard Msytic Warrior must be an outstanding score.
But how to get?
What about Cheyenne Autumn by Alex North? Does anybody know it. It seems, chances to get
a copy via eBay are by far better than for Fried's score.

Hi Christian!
I got my copy of THE MYSTIC WARRIOR at eBay for a very reasonable price of 17 Euros. When I saw it at eBay I thought a lot of people would bid for it, but, to my surprise, I was the only bidder.
You may be lucky enough and find a copy at eBay. There are not many people who seem to be interested in this little known score, but I can assure it's wonderful.
Best regards,
Angel

Okay, that sounds promising, although I think you were very lucky.

SHEHAWEH existed (while it was in print) on a Quebec CD Analekta 2 8806. Several of Gregoire's scores were released by this label and were seldom distributed outside of Quebec.
