Question

Maybe a second pressing for "INCHON"

Go to Intrada, and read "Dougs Corner"

The people at Intrada want to know your opinion
if they would go for a second pressing of "Inchon"

It certainly would undermine the eBay prices... ;-))

I personally hope they do. I missed out on first batch.

Well its a good idea for the people who missed out of course but trying to do another batch of something that is supposedly a 1500 pressing would be difficult.................I think you would have to relabel as 2nd edtition or sometihng like that, and the original 1500 figure just goes outta the window !!! very tricky indeed !!!

My proposal: 500 copies of a limited edition 4CD set of CAPRICORN ONE + INCHON? (Capricorn One album recording + Capricorn One original score + the two current Inchon discs) :-D

But SERIOUSLY: I would absolutely applaud a second pressing. After all the "limited edition" tag is usually just a flattering description for the estimated maximum number of buyers and not meant to artificially limit something that could sell more copies. So IF every once in a while something sells out fast, I would always support a second pressing, given Intrada can estimate reasonably if the 2nd pressing would sell, too. Only Intrada can judge - based on their 'copies per purchase/order' records - how much the fast sellout was due to real film music lovers' demand or just Ebay sharks.

However, I'm not sure if I would buy it then. I never got hooked up on the Goldsmith/Bernstein kind of military music.

Urs

P.S.: Three cheers for blinddoc! :-) Just my kind of thinking - Spreading the appreciation/love of film music should always come before collecting for collecting's sake.

Hm,

As i was one of the lucky ones who ordered it as soon as it was up on the site, i think i can be objective about it.

I think in most of us soundtrack collectors, there is a certain amount of pride about owning scores that are no longer (if, at all) available. Which is stupid, basically, as owning a rare item is only achieved by chance or spending big money (usually "hard work" doesn't have anything to do with it ;-). Nevertheless, i also feel a bit proud of my collection...

BUT... What is the true meaning behind releasing a soundtrack? To make it available to the interested public. Period. When the edition is so small that only a fragment of interested people can be reached, the edition should be made larger. Plus, we all know that most less than 2'000 editions are being hunted by eBay sellers not caring about a score and only wanting to make big money.

I think Doug Fake is doing the right thing asking about pressing a second batch. It's fairly courageous, you know... But finally, a big "boss" of one of the leading score labels is questioning his own decision about quantities. I think this is VERY refreshing - and daring.

So, please go ahead and print more Inchons so the demand can be satisfied - and it even makes a bit more money for Intrada than planned, which they can invest in great future releases.

And who cares if the CD you own is released in an edition of 1'000 or 3'000 units (the latter seems to be a regular number pressed even on unlimited releases)?

It's about enjoying the MUSIC, not the edition size, right?

Best,
Burnie

O.K. - but over at the Intrada forum Roger Feigelson reveales that they even played with the idea of putting INCHON into the signatures series which would have mean only 1000 units !!!!!

Imagine the uprising after such a release ....
With all due respect to Intrada but they really screwed it this time !!

The BANDOLERO re-issue was evidence enough that a quantity of 1500 of a Jerry Goldsmith-score is just wrong.
eBay-sharks or not.

It is simple:
If you haven't succeed to purchase this cd in the first run, you would be glad to have another change of buying this cd.

Why are some soundtrack releases designated as limited and others are not by record labels?

Anyway, little record label Perseverance did the same thing with their supposedly limited release of "Loch Ness" to cash in on some extra dough -which of course it is very much needed to keep this small record label in business and on releasing more great and obscure film music- even though interestingly enough nothing was mentioned on both pressings about the soundtrack being a limited release or a limited re-pressing soundtrack.

I would not be suprised though if 'Powerhouse Intrada' declines the idea of a second pressing for "Inchon" for the time being since it defies the whole purpose of limited releases and might question their impeccable reputation of releasing such limited only releases.

Perhaps they could make an only one exception since this Inchon 2 cd re-release came and left so fast out of nowhere and give this film score a re-pressing with a different color cd booklet or an added feature like a trailer of the movie to distinguish the original pressing from the re-pressing but I'm sure collector's will gorge up this one as well just as fast merely for its collective value.

Perhaps a third pressing?...

I can never picture 'Super Powerhouse Varese Sarabande' doing re-pressings on their limited cd club releases.

One can never be so sure though... naaah! Highly unlikely!!

I got my copy ordered when they were down to below 200 left. I just forgot there would be a CD released that day and I almost lost out on it. I do feel bad for the few who do truly want to own the CD set so they will listen to it. Not just so they can gauge people for it. I missed out on the BANDOLERO Special Ed.

There will be NO second pressing.
This decision was made by Intrada
based on the feedback they received

Second seller on ebay who offers a copy of Inchon for fifty english pounds. People become more and more greedy.

Gee, I NEVER would have believed that Intrada is so inapt !!

They wasting money on projects like IN FROM THE NIGHT - stuff, I honestly believe nobody ever really asked for and maybe will never sell out AND repeating mistakes of a Goldsmith-CD limited to 1500 like BANDOLERO.

With INCHON maybe they could have balanced easily all their losses on previous "dust-gatherers" like BALLETS RUSSES, which according to this database only 5 collectors have !!

@Intrada. Since you made your decision against a second press based on responses then maybe it is also an idea to ask people what they think of a certain limitation before you release something with the totally wrong quantity.

Hello Soundtrack Collectors.
It is absolutely wrong (I believe) to limit a soundtrack to a certain number, when it is unknown how many people out there want a score.
I have been collecting film score for over two years now, and I am finding it really hard to find certain scores, and it is absolutely ridiculous the prices that people, and some businesses, are charging.
If I had a say in it, I would make a suggestion that a way around it would be for the seller to set up information on the internet as to the products details, and from this, they could ask possible buyers who would like to purchase the soundtrack to go on a list, and when the list reaches a certain point, the business could produce a batch, and fans alike would be happy.
It sure has taken a long time for film composers to be recognised, with their complete scores, and I hope it continues far into the future.
Hopefully someone takes on this idea of mine, as I know that the number of music collectors are increasing.
Thankyou for considering a second pressing release, as I am a buyer who would like to purchase a copy, as currently I have missed out.

Hmmm, one possible solution could be if Intrada limits the amount one could put into the shopping basket to, say, 2 copies for seven days !!

This way every serious collector would have the time to discover, consider and purchase a limited edition.

After that, the remaining copies could be snatched up by the Ebay-sharks. In case they then would still want to ;-)

Sold-out in one or seven days - would this be such a huge problem,
Doug ??

I had suggested similar ideas in the past but they don't listen and they really don't see things from our perspective and frankly don't care if one misses out. Tough luck!...

They are a business that just wants to produce, start selling and cash in on as many copies as possible the quicker the better.
Profit is what drives this industry and any industry and not philanthropy.
Profit is what will bring to us 'soundtrack devotees' the next release and the release after that and so on.

As far as Paul's suggestion, I had read some time ago in one of the many soundtrack forums that Perseverance Records was considering the possibility of taking paid pre-orders on suggested soundtrack titles by the record label to see how many pressings should be done in order to satisfy demand even before the pressings of the soundtracks began.
I believe one of the suggested titles was the rejected score for "Chinatown".
I don't know the legitimacy of such an action by a record label but it might prove to be to complicated.

Even though Intrada will not be doing a re-pressing, I have a feeling that this latest 2 cd Inchon release will not be the last one by this record label.

Just received this e-mail from BSX...

BSX will be selling the new Intrada *INCHON* (one/customer) later this week!...

P.S. According to Perseverance, a re-recording of Phillip Lambro's rejected score for "Chinantown" hopefully would be released next year. This one would be very interesting indeed!
