Question

Your favorite score from a S.K. novel based movie?

Hello,

What is your favorite score from any movie made based on a Stephen King Novel? Is there any King movie scores that have not been released that you would like to see an offical cd release of? I also would like to know if someone could let me know what they think of the score from the tv version of "The Shining".

Best Regards,
David Phoenix, AZ.

I like the rock score by AC/DC in MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE, but that sort of got released as a regular AC/DC album. Other than that, I'd like to see SILVER BULLET, CATS EYE, and CHILDREN OF THE CORN, all which were released as LPs from Varese Sarabande. (Future limited club titles?)

I love Michael Kamen's score for DEAD ZONE but from what I understand the CD is out of sequence and mixed incorrectly.

Personally, I would pick Pino Donaggio's "Carrie." I wish there was an instrumental version for the song "Born to Have it All." The vocals are whiny and the lyrics are irritating, but the music surrounding it is so beautiful. The opening notes played with the electric organ and fender rhodes give me goosebumps everytime.

I'd pic Carrie by Donaggio too. But i also like Christine by Carpenter & The Shining by Carlos a lot.

Looks to me as if most scores to King films aren't so great... probably because of the nature of the subject (since horror film scores are often rather subtile). That in mind, I'd also go for DEAD ZONE, and maybe also for NEEDFUL THINGS.

THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION (Thomas Newman), NEEDFUL THINGS (Patrick Doyle), THE DEAD ZONE (Michael Kamen) and APT PUPIL (John Ottman).

All great scores.

Carrie, Christine, Needful Things, Pet Sematary are all great!

Cat's Eye, Children Of The Corn, III, IV, V, VI, VII, Graveyard Shift, It, The Mangler, The Mangler Reborn and of course last but not least... 1979's Salem's Lot and The Shining would be interesting releases as well.

The avant-garde/classical pieces compiled by Stanley Kubrick plus the Wendy Carlos excerps used in THE SHINING (1980). The most effective horror soundtrack I've ever heard in a movie.
