Star Wars Trilogy - Opinion needed

Hi, this is not so much a soundtrack question but I was wondering if anyone has any opinion on which of the many DVD releases of the Star War trilogy is the best? I mean best in terms of sound quality, visual quality and of course brings out the best of the wonderful score?

I own the orignals on Laserdisc as well as the Special Edition Trilogy on Laserdisc and I own the current ones out on DVD and I have to say the best sound quality that is again SOUND is from the Laserdiscs .. for some odd reason Laserdisc sound just seems to be more full and just sounds really good.. as great as DVDs can sound LD sound compression etc must have been very good.

I think the new ones released yesterday are pretty good. I own the special edition dvds in widescreen but I broke down yesterday and bought the newest release of "Empire" for the original, untampered film that I remember as a kid. The special editions are cool but the original is still #1 with me! :)

Come on George..how about releasing "Clones" and "Sith" in extended or special editions on dvd?? And while you are at it..could we have "ultimate edition" cds of "Clones" and "Sith" as well (like was done with "Phantom Menace"??). I would be first in line for my copies!!!

Still debating the greater movie..."Empire" or "Sith".....

How are the new releases selling in the U.S.?

Thanks for all the responses so far. I have been tempted to buy the new releases but the comments I read at Amazon.com is very discouraging. It appears that the old releases are better and the new 2DVD ones have not much to bring to the table.

For Sales in the US ... I would say not as Hot as the last offering that was released on DVD ... accroding to amazon.com in the US site on top sellers none of the Star Wars films were in the Top 10 at all for sales in fact CARS was selling at the # 10 spot and it is just a pre-order!

I think Lucas messed up with his fans by not having them 16:9 anamorphic transfers for this release. We will see what next years anniversary holds in store.

Despite the contreversy regarding sound (The Spec. Ed LD Boxset is superior) I think that the sound mixes on the 2004 Box-Set was far from impressive (As the Star Destroyer passes over Tatooine - what happenned to the laser balst ricochet that was heard in all other prints)

And also with the new 2 disc releases - I don't care that the ORIGINAL versions are in 2.0... They were the only resons we love the trilogy in the first place... But come on peeps - a 5.1 EX sound mix would have been nicer for the theatrical versions - despite Lucas's crap stories of original source material being in bad state) - And here's another few bucks going towards George's way...
