Berlin visit ~ Membran label (follow-up)
Hi to all those who contributed to my Berlin visit thread last week - many thanks for the comments in particular:
Ton: I was very interested to read your reply re: the Membran label items ... I see that David (Coma) has indicated validity via an obsure czech licence (his words). Certainly I have found that when playing "Beneath the 12 Mile Reef" using Windows Media Player v10 it shows up the FSM release! Had I known that there was such a legitimate release at the time I would not have purchased this Membran item - I just hope that the FSM release has better sound quality. In other words, I will buy a "bootleg" item, but rarely, and only if I do not know (or think) that there is a legitimate release.
As a coda to this issue, I see today that IntermezzoMedia now list 23 of these Membran releases (in their "foreign" releases section) - perhaps these are ones where there is no current legitimate release - I haven't checked the database.
David: wheverer we go we have rain so Berlin was no exception! At least it wasn't torrential (Florida) or flooding (Southern France), etc. On return I was able to check my memory that I recalled seeing "Europa-Center mit Gedachtniskirche" (I presume this is the church with the broken spire) in one of my favourite movies - towards the end of "The Quiller Memorandum" - even though I haven't watched it for several years.
Arne: Good to hear from you and thank you for the Tarantula reference (I remember seeing their name some time ago but do not recall visiting their website) - I will check them out. As for visiting Germany again - perhaps though I do not imagine Hamburg being on the itinerary. Indeed, I much fancy a trip to Denmark sometime - if only it was not so expensive!
Best wishes to all - this soundtrack community is wonderful!

By the way, Mitch, are you aware that the German dubbing of QUILLER MEMORANDUM deleted all Nazi references from the movie? In the German language version, Quiller hunts an ominous crime organization, somethink like SPECTRE from the Bond movies rather than the Nazi guys in the original English language version.

Too bad I did not get a chance to read any of the replies posted regarding Membran since it was probably deleted because of the recent problem S.C. is having.
As far as I know from what is listed on the cd*s themselves, Membran cd*s are manufactured by a legitimate source in Greece and distributed by Membran Records in Germany.
If these soundtrack releases have been manufactured illegally or not is something I cannot attest to but personally I believe since the recordings on the Membran soundtracks are original recordings of more than 50 years or so, hence most probably public domain material whose copyright has expired, their must be a small legal window somewhere which most likely makes their manufacture permittable by law at least in certain countries throughout the world.
