Question

Which is your favorite light-hearted soundtrack?

We all have our favorite epic/sci-fi/action movie soundtracks. But sometimes one just feels like listening to something light and easy, yet touching. Which are your favorite light-hearted/romantic soundtracks?

My personal favorites are Father of the Bride (I is better than II) and While You Were Sleeping. My Dog Skip by William Ross is also extremely captivating but a bit on the sad side.

What's yours?

Hello,

A few scores that come to mind.

"Chocolat"- Rachel Portman
"Frankie Starlight" - Elmer Bernstein
"El Milagro De P.Tinto" - Suso Saiz
"The Sandlot" - David Newman
"Cousin Bette" - Simon Boswell
"The Love Letter" - Luis Bacalov
"The Escape Artist" - Georges Delerue
(And any of the Vic Mizzy scores I own would qualify)

Best Regards,
David Phoenix, AZ.

I could also have named quite a lot of the other scores mentioned here (e.g. Cinema Paradiso), but I would not really think of these as "light-hearted". To me, light-hearted would be definitely not melancholic - which these scores are in my ears.

I would say High Time (Henry Mancini), Amarcord (Nino Rota), Pinocchio (Nicola Piovani) and Il Gatto (Ennio Morricone).

FOLLOW ME by John Barry... I love it!

Let me think... light & easy, yet touching, light hearted & romantic...

I would think musical scores basically fit this description perfectly like Henri Mancini's ''Victor, Victoria'' but I cannot think of a film score per se at the moment.

I got one!... I think.

''An Almost Perfect Affair'' by the great romantic Georges Delerue with a dose of melancholy weaved into the music as most always.

Another... ''Un Homme Et Une Femme'' by Francis Lai.

Wow, thanks for all the answers, didn't expect such warm response. What's more, it seems like we all have very different "favorites"! Hardly any repetitions!

The winter guest - Michael Kamen
Carried away - Bruce Broughton
Un homme amoureux - Georges Delerue

Just to name a few ones for me ...
Best regards

Fierce Creatures by Jerry Goldsmith! fab score :-)

Never let a good thread die!

FIELD OF DREAMS - Everything of the asked-for description. Horner himself on the piano, I believe.

THE MUSE (Elton John!?) Yes, THAT Elton John. But for two songs tacked to the end, a fully-orchestral effort. Prevailing mood: light and gay, quasi-baroque.

MIDNIGHT RUN - Not the usual Danny Elfman sound-- written in a blues idiom! Mood: optimistic blues. (oxymoron)

WAG THE DOG - Mark Knopfler. Variety of styles of acoustic guitar music.

BENNY & JOON (Rachel Portman) sags a bit in places... Portman's got some great, light themes in a whole bunch of movies. Someone really ought to put together a compilation.

Hmm...
Dinosaur - James Newton Howard
Ladyhawke - John Powell
Lucky Number Slevin - J. Ralph
Rudy - Jerry Goldsmith
Spaceballs - John Morris
Trouble With Angels - Jerry Goldsmith

Those are a few. There are others, but they repeat some of those already listed. Cheers!
