Question

What score gives you the feeling of hope?

What score in your collection, or that you're trying to acquire, gives you the feeling of hope. For me, I'd have to go with Shawshank Redemption. And it might be due to the fact that I so closely relate it to the movie. The tracks "So was Red" and "End Titles" are extremely inspirational to me. Always makes me feel great closing the score out with those two tracks.

For me it can only be the main title of "Miller's crossing" by Carter Burwell
but the following tracks can help too :
- "Toys, planes ..." in Williams's Empire of the sun
- "Training montage" in Kamen's Highlander
and one of the main theme of Silvestri's Forrest Gump always helped me (not sure which
one exactly )

best regards

I've given this question some thought. I suppose many recordings result in an after effect of optimism and hope. Thats the reason I sometimes give it a whirl. In order to rise above the ugliness of the times. Especially here in the USA where anytime a person turns on the television newscasts you will find little more than the exploitation of the insane shit happening in this country so often it's become "normal".

Couple of weeks ago I listened to "One Of A Kind" (Dave Grusin) for the first time in several years. Beautiful strong intelligent music. Struck me as something from a more sane time and place.

The Neil Hefti recordings have always left me feeling mighty fine!

The good old U S of A is not the only country with exploitative brainwashing news broadcasts 'killer knives'. This is a worldwide phenomenon so do not feel that bad about it. Ignore television shit and remain positive by listening to uplifting and sometimes wacky film scores... like music by Vic Mizzy perhaps? ;- )

"Legends of the Fall" (Horner) before all the tragedy hits..(when everyone is still alive).. "Troy" (Horner again)when Paris brings Helen to the city... "Dances with Wolves" (Barry)when he first arrives in the West... "The White Horse" in Dragonslayer (North) and "The Island" in The Black Stallion by Carmine Coppola and Shirley Walker. :)
