Question

Can you remember the 1st score you ever bought?

Kind of a tough one I would say for most. For me, it's really tough. I have to say, it's kind of a toss up between "Magnolia" (Jon Brion) or "Braveheart" (James Horner). I'm leaning more towards Magnolia because the music in that movie really meant a lot to me. I'm pretty sure I went right out looking for it. I didn't get the score for Braveheart until after I acquired the DVD. Can anyone else remember?

THE MISSION (Ennio Morricone) was the first score I bought on CD. The second was INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE. Prior to that I had bought a few scores on cassette, but I don't remember which I bought first. I remember having the score to THE NEVERENDING STORY (Doldinger/Moroder) on cassette back in '84, so that may have been the first.

Easy to remember. Victory At Sea, nearly 50 years ago, and it's still one of my favorites.

Easy ...

After the Geoff Love albums: Big Western & War Film Themes came "The Best of Bond" followed a few days later by the first score: "Goldfinger" - Nov 70.

On CD, first was: "Somewhere In Time" - probably 2 months or so before I bought a CD player!

I guess my first soundtrack was Babylon 5 Vol.1 on CD. A short time after that came The Island of Dr. Moreau by Gary Chang.
Then came Babylon 5 Vol.2 and Star Wars The EMpire Strikes Back.
These were my first scores.

My very first soundtrack was the double lp of The Empire strikes back.I was only 5 years of age and my Mom bought it as a gift. She thought it included dialogue, fun for little kids. But i fell in love with the soundtrack right away!1 year later my second was of course Raiders of the lost ark.
Till this day my mom does not understand my collecting habit, but she is to blame. ;) thanks mom, i love you!

This is based in a true story!
When I was 14 years old, in a far 1979, I was trying to record an aired Rod Stewart's "Do you think I'm Sexy?" when a commercial was included by mistake in my home recording.
This commercial used SUPERMAN-THE MOVIE score, a movie seen in theatres just a week before.
I start hearing song but soon I was only hearing the commercial with SUPERMAN score, one time, and again, and again...
A week later I was buying the double LP Set (Thanks Grandma!), and hearing the music, at first only main title but soon all complete recording.
Today, 27 years later, I still enjoying this score as one of best scores in film music history, and although I have a lot of scores, this, my first score, still sounds to me as the best of the best!

The first soundtrack record I bought was SUPERMAN - THE MOVIE (John Williams). It was the double vinyl LP released in 1978. I was 12 years old. Of course I still have it.

My first mail ordered LP was CONAN THE BARBARIAN (Basil Poledouris). I was 17.

My first Compact Disc was HOOSIERS (Jerry Goldsmith). It was in 1987 and I was 21. Man, that was a long time ago!

My first mail ordered CD was LEVIATHAN (Jerry Goldsmith) in 1989.

Best regards,
Angel

My first one scared the hell out me as a child: Dark Shadows. Mainly because of the poster of Barnabas Collins (Vampire), and David Selby as a werewolf! The Electric Company, Sesame Street , The Sugarbears, Batman, and the Archies lps soon followed. (This was the late sixties, early seventies). I also collected cardboard records from the backs of cereal boxes with the Monkees, Jackson 5 etc.!!! I still have the Jackson 5 one.

Gremlins on cassette, in 84. I was a nerdy red-haired preteen with glasses...

(and I'm still waiting after all these years for a COMPLETE soundtrack album...)

My first soundtracks were "technically" - gifts. Although I requested them , and waited for Xmas to open them!

The first I ever bought myself, was likely "Earthquake" by John Williams, followed by ..er..what was it's official title.. "James Bond-Tenth Anniversary Album Superpak" on 2 vinyl LP's. Great stuff!

Go vegetarian!

Diamonds are Forever, closely followed by Goldfinger, both on LP back in the 70s. Still listening
to them today.

1970: PATTON (LP)

The first soundtrack I ever heard outside of a film was LAWRENCE OF ARABIA. My Dad played it for me when I was five or six. He then introduced me to DOCTOR ZHIVAGO and HATARI as well as WESTSIDE STORY.

"Batman" by Danny Elfman. I grew up under my mom's tutelage of soundtracks- "How the West was Won", " The Long Riders", "Great Western Themes", " Dark Shadows", "Tubular Bells", "Cleopatra", "Battle of Algiers", "Star Wars", " Ghostbusters"..these were all hers that she played over and over while I was growing up on our stereo in the living room. I remember going with her to the music store and asking about the music playing on the overhead speaker..his reply was, "Yeah some dude went and wrote some classical music for that Batman movie". So I bought my first CASSETTE (whoa).. and it went from there. Oddly enough, about three weeks ago my mom came over with all those LPs I grew up with and gave them to me. Needless to say they aren't leaving! (and I still have Batman, too).

The first soundtrack: Jaws 2 on LP. I bought it when i was about fourteen years
while i was in vacancy in switzerland, Locarno. I missed the original jaws but certainly have not been dissappointed with the sequel.

That's easy ;-)

First: The Empire Strikes Back double LP
Second: Star Trek - The Motion Picture LP
Third: Superman II LP
Fourth: Star Wars double LP

ESB was in 1980, as was ST:TMP. The rest in 1981 i believe. From '82 on, I was in kind of a Moroder craze, starting with "Cat People" and "Midnight Express".

These were all gifts from either my mom or my grandmother. With 11 / 12 years of age, that wasn't quite possible from own funds...;-)

From '82 and '83 on, my interests shifted to Horror scores and I started "collecting" Carpenter and Goblin scores...

Best,
Burnie

Once Upon a time in the West (Ennio Morricone) on LP. Not very original, I know. It was a gold
disc already in the early 1970's. I was into Creedence and the Doors, but started to become a
real filmbuff. So I steadily built up a collection of soundtracks by John Barry (Anniversary 007
2LPset), Delerue (Promise at Dawn), Herrmann (Fantasy film world on Phase4), Rota (Fellini)
and more Morricone (My name is Nobody). I never stopped buying this odd genre.
