Most $$ Spent On A Score???

Ok, out of curiousity and personal validity, I'm wondering what's the most amount of money you've ever dropped on a soundtrack. I ask because I'm coming close to spending a lot of money on a score I really really want. So, is it crazy to spend a load of money on a piece of music, if it brings you enjoyment or delivers you to a place in time in your mind. I would say no, but others have disagreed.

The most I've spent (to date) on a soundtrack would be $35 (USD), keep in mind though that only recently have I started buying scores that I couldn't find in a retail store. How bout you?

very good question. I also started one year ago to check out ebay on scores I could not find anywhere else. The most amount of money I spent on a score was last X-mas for LOTR complete recordings - together with shipping it was 43 pounds. I haven't regreted any penny I spent on the excellent score. This time the TTT complete recordings, which I have already pre-ordered, will be cheaper - 61$ including shipping.
A brand new sealed copy of The Swarm by maestro Goldsmith is next in line - 24,99$. For Hellraiser Chronicles I spent 34 Euros.
Many of my scores cost regular prices, avarage of 14-17 Euros, normal price. Some scores I obtained very cheap, most of them on ebay.
Cheers!

Most that I paid was $60 + shipping for a favorite score of mine -- have it on LP as well (the same content) but it was worth it.

The most I've spent on a soundtrack has been my last purchase. I've paid $87 USD for a used (in mint condition) CD. I never thought I would pay such an amount of money for a single CD, but I had an incontrollable impulse and decided to get it at (almost) any cost. This CD was one of the three titles I needed to complete the discography of my favourite composer. Now I must find the other two... Oh my God!

I spent just under £200 for the six CD Goldsmith set from Varese. I spent £45 each on the Star Wars (IV,V,VI) double CDs that included the colour booklet. There are others but I'll leave at that.

Of course the answer $60 was adjusted to a score. Otherwise most $$ spent was $199.95 + $26.25 (shipping) for the ELMER BERNSTEIN FILM MUSIC COLLECTION box.

27.99£ (GBP) for MADDALENA/QUESTA SPECIE D'AMORE (GDM) back in 1998 from Tower Records, London. I won't spend more on a single disc release unless I cannot get a hold of a CD-R copy of it.

If one can provide the dough and if it gives them gratification and makes them happy I'll say go for it.

Music is good for the soul so nourishing it is an essential ingredient for feeling alive!

As far as the most I've spent on film music... you really don't want to know and frankly it is no one's business but mine.

***Enjoy the music!...***

On a single score, probably what I spent earlier this month when I grabbed Die Hard, Predator, Piranha, and The Bride on Ebay. The price averaged out to about $69 a score. If I count boxed sets. I bought the Bernstein Box. The Goldsmith Box I ended up paying for twice. The first attempt on Ebay I got ripped off, so ultimately I spent about $400 to get that set.

I expect I will have to pay an arm and a leg to land a copy of the Varese Club edition of The Robe at this point.

The most that I've spent for a single CD is $200 for the Reflex Records edition of FRIGHT NIGHT (I have #19 out of 150 copies).

On the other hand, I sold YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES for $200, RED SONJA/BLOODLINES for $250 and JAWS 2 for $275 (!).

The most I have spent on a single CD is around $125.00. (which if I remember correctly was for SERPENT AND THE RAINBOW) I usually try not to spend more than $50.00. :) On the other hand, I have sold several titles for 4x the amount for my highest paid score.

A more intersting question would be what is the best trade/transaction? I purchased a CD for $1.50 in a used bin and sold it for $500.00!!! I got a RUNAWAY TRAIN CD in trade for a title I picked up for $2.95.

The Wind and the Lion
Cant remember if it was 60.00 or 65.00
but that was the most.

I can't honestly remember which of mine takes the prize as the most expensive..I will routinely drop $50+ if it is something I really really want and know its worth it on the secondhand market. Sometimes thats top dollar, but I do it to have the music to enjoy- not because of resale.

On that topic I'd just like to throw out the one thing that guides my purchases- be sure you are buying it for the music- and not just to "have it"! That said here are a few scores I spent over $50 for (on cd): Dragonslayer, Saturn 3 and Flowers in the Attic.

I have to say spending high is always countered by spending low..I bet a bunch of you out there have some terrific finds at less than $10..I know I do! :)

the most i have spend on a soundtrack was 120 € in a original copy of ALIVE of JAMES NEWTON HOWARD. 120 € for only 30 minuts of music.

You sound like a stalker creepo!

Generally I don't talk about the amount of money dropped on recordings unless bragging about an exceptional find. Saying it's no ones business was just a simple light hearted statement that apparently triggered a psychotic response from an unstable loon.

Far out!
