Ever Met or Traded Correspondence with one of your fav. composers???
In my case, I have sent e-mails to a few composers(Michael Giacchino, John Harrison, Tyler Bates). I have actually heard back from Tyler Bates, and exchanged a few e-mails with him. Really cool guy. I realize that composers have a busy shedule with recording studios and what-not, but it was cool to have one respond to me. I would like to meet a few in person, like: John Carpentar, James Horner, and others. Just wondering if anyone else (which I would imagine is highly likely) has been succesful with this.

I was fortunate enough to meet Michael kamen at the S & M show. I had a friend who was a performer in the SF Symphony and he explained to Michael what a huge fan I was and that I did my thesis on him. I was invited to rehersels and thought I would shake his hand and spend 5 minutes with him. Kamen was the most gracious man you could ever imagined. Invited me out to dinner with his family at an italian restaurant in SF. Talked movies, politicts and his scores. Introduced me to Metalica and set me up with tickets next to his family for both shows. Hung out during his media interviews and introduced me around to everyone the night of the shows.
Stayed in touched via email and snail mail and even copied a bootleg for him that he wanted performed with Clapton. Greatest night of my life and I will never forget it. RIP. You will be remembered.

Nope !
But Gabriel Yared answered my mail when I expressed him my desolation for the reject
of Troy . The man was so devasted at the time he felt almost surprised somebody could
be interested by his work !!
Soundtrack business is pretty hard !

I wrote to David Arnold to know about the new Bond score (before he were in the project) and he replied me yes and explaining his projects, all ok.
Another time I wrote to Bruce Broughton to know about a re-issue of "Young Sherlock Holmes" score beacuse I hadn´t that cd and he answered that he didn´t know nothing. Instead, he said me that I could copy it from some friend!

When you say mail, coma, you are talking about letters? I only ask because I was told that e-mails are hardly looked at as geniunely as a real letter sent through the mail.

I have written an email some years ago to Christopher Franke, the music composer for the sci-fi hit series Babylon 5 in german, because he comes from Berlin/Germany, has been living in the U.S. for decades. And guess what, he replied. We changed 2 or 3 emails. :)))
Cool guy :)
2 years ago I wrote an email to Brain Tyler using the contact form on his website. He replied :)))
Cheers!

Cool thread,
Who ever spoken to a composer while getting their cd autographed?.. Like for instance the late Jerry Goldsmith,Elmer Bernstein etc.

I know what you mean, coma. I haven't sent a letter through the mail in years. I just can't stand the wait. Soon is never soon enough. But then again, I have an impatient personality sometimes, against my best efforts.

A couple of months ago, I wrote and sent a 2 page (two handwritten pages) letter to Charles Bernstein expressing my admiration for his MR. MAJESTYK (1974) score and encouraging him to look into the possibility of a CD release of it. An assistant of his told me by email of Mr. Bernstein's appreciation of my letter and told me he would consider a release.
Apart from that, I emailed a German (Dieter Schleip) and a Swiss composer (Marcel Barsotti) and got replies from each of them.

Emails: Tyler Bates (sent me a promo of DAWN OF THE DEAD), Wayne Bell, Shirley Walker (Signed my ESCAPE FROM LA CD mentioning my Emails). There are a couple others which I have forgotten.
I've met: Christopher Young, Bruce Broughton, Fred Karlin, Laurence Rosenthal, Richard Band, Douglass Fake, John Scott, David Raksin.
I've seen: Elmer Bernstein and Jerry Goldsmith conduct orchestras.

I saw Jerry Goldsmith in concert with the Utah Symphony Orchestra in 1991 and following
the concert I snuck back to the conducter's suite. Jerry was there with his wife, drinking a
Coca Cola. I introduced myself and he introduced his wife. We talked for about 10 minutes,
the security guard there was nice enough to shoot a photo of me with him and then I left.
He was great. I'm sad he passed away before I could ever hire him to score one of my own
films.
I spoke with Mark Isham briefly on the phone re: his score for the Imax film Galapagos.
Another truly cool guy and he sent me an autographed, personalized copy of the soundtrack
for the film.
Saw Trevor Rabin in concert when Yes came to the Tingley Collesium in Albuquerque back in
the 80's. Does that count?

Met Alex North.
Recieved email from Mundell Lowe and Tommy Morgan.
Got into a vicious verbal confrontation with Carol Kaye (bassist on hundreds of American film scores) for opposing George "peanut butter head' Bush Jr's idiotic notion of how to kill for your country.
Met quite a few sideshow freaks as a child when I would spend the night at the fair as my father worked the gate.
Knotty Knot, Popeye, Pete Moore and several other carnival legends.

I've corresponded and still correspond with lots of composers, most of them my own personal favourites and had the luck to meet in person John Debney, John Ottman, John Frizzel, Bruno Coulias, Marco Werba, Javier Capellas, Marco Vaillo, Oscar Araujo and my alltime favourite composer BASIL POLEDOURIS, who is an absolute gem of a man! :) and saw also most of them in action in live in concert.
