Question

Scores with "That" kind of music

I like scores with a certain kind of music but I haven't been able to articulate a good name for them so I simple call them scores with "that" kind of music. I am hoping that by listing some of the scores with that type of music, it will trigger in fellow score fans some similar titles that they might be able to suggest. Much thanks. Examples are:

Class Action (Horner)
Copy Cat (Young)
Dark Half, The (Young)
Few Good Men, A (Shaiman)
Incognito (Ottman)
Jennifer 8 (Young)
Judicial Consent (Young)
Mulholland Falls (Grusin)
Pelican Brief, The (Horner)
Presumed Innocent (Williams)
Shattered (Silvestri)
Skulls, The (Edelman)
Usual Suspects, The (Ottman)

Typically it is a piano based motif that is more spooky that scary. More disconcerting than all out horror. A good word for it might be "moody". It's tough for me to describe but I know it when I hear it. It is a style and not every track on particular title is of the "that" music style.

Any help in unearthing similar releases would be very appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks for the pointers. I'll try to check them out since I own neither of these as yet.

Thanks again.

I'm trying to think of some other moody piano pieces within individual scores.

Moody. Now that's a good word to describe what I am talking about. That might help me better describe what I am after to other people. Much appreciated.

I have The Accidental Tourist. Hmmmm. I'll have to check it out but if I remember correctly I put it more in the same category that I put scores like To Kill A Mocking Bird, Rambling Rose, A Patch of Blue, The Spitfire Grill and maybe Stanley and Iris and my forever hoped for Racing With The Moon. Piano true but much more relaxing and even possibly somber at times. I'll have to re-listen to Accidental Tourist in a few minutes. Thanks very much for your input.

I checked out The Accidental Tourist and it falls into the other category I mentioned above. It does have a beautiful piano driven theme but it doesn't have the spooky, disconcerting aspect. Thanks.

Darkness by Carles Cases
or "Angela Undress" from American Beauty by Thomas newman has that kind of sound i think.

"Nocturnesque" music (i.e. like a nocturne), maybe?
I have a feeling you'd sink right into Erik Satie's Six Gnossiennes.
My family calls anything not like the Superman anthem a dirge. Philistines.

Scores with "That" kind of music

I immediately thought of 'Jacob's Ladder' by Jarre.

Jennifer 8 is one of my favorite scores. If you like that you would love the UNSAID. Another one of my favorites and similar. Do yourself a favor and get that also

One more I should have thought of yesterday. The Garden Of The Finzi Continis (Manuel Di Sica).

A beautiful and tragic score for a great film!

I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for, but John Williams's score for Angela's Ashes is similar in mood to Presumed Innocent.
