American Nightmare and others, any thoughts???
Hey, American Nightmare, the below posted link is a link to the seller I purchased the RE4 soundtrack from that you told me was probably a bootleg. Well, I got it, and it looked great. Sounded great too. Nothing about the cd packaging or the discs themselves hinted to bootlegging, but maybe you and others can check out the link and take a closer look. A lot of the albums he's selling are from the same company, and this company is on the list of suspected bootleggers that you posted a link to. Thanks for any heads up warnings.

At a glance, they look fine too me. Judging from this seller's feedback it seems highly unlikely but again they might not even know some of the stuff are bootlegs. Best bet is to email them and express your concern and direct them to that list. You have nothing to lose. Meanwhile enjoy the music. Nice art work by the way.

KO Records is a bootlegger from Taiwan.
aouvrier, December 12, 2006; 10:30 AM

Yes, serifiot, I did inquire to the seller in an email, and he confirmed that none of his items are bootlegs. That he gets them from various places in Europe.
aouvrier, how are you sure that KO is bootlegging?
drakemarone, December 12, 2006; 10:34 AM

Hey, email, contact, and coma. Would you mind taking a look also. It seems like you each have a nack for sniffing out bootlegs. I'd appreciate it.
drakemarone, December 12, 2006; 10:36 AM

What are those various places? I really would like to know!
serifiot, December 12, 2006; 10:42 AM

Here's what he said...
Hi,
No, it's not a bootleg, it's factory pressed and sealed. I import this one from Taiwan, it's not like I run them off on a CDr or anything - although I must admit I've never come across a version with a book. To say that anything produced outside Japan is a bootleg seems to be something of a
wild claim. My soundtracks come from all over - I import them from various countries, Europe, US, Taiwan and Japan. Like you said, puzzling.
I'll let you judge the quality for yourself!
- Kind of like you said, serifiot, it's quite possible that a seller might not realize that he's getting bootlegs I suppose.
drakemarone, December 12, 2006; 10:47 AM

Well... in regards to the seller's claim that whatever Japanese music that is manufactured outside of Japan as well is not necessarily a bootleg release seems quite fair. I would hate to think, and besides it sounds so cynical to categorize every soundtrack made in Tawian or Korea as a bootleg. As we all know, a lot of American released scores are manufactured in Europe and other parts of the world as well with different inlays, more tracks, etc. which doesn't necessarily make them bootleg releases.
serifiot, December 12, 2006; 11:21 AM

drakemarone,
They are ALL bootlegs. EVERY CD that he is selling. Please read this for more info:

''Age Of Mythology'' the seller is selling is exactly like the one in the link provided above under soundtracks. Is the seller's item a bootleg???
serifiot, December 12, 2006; 1:10 PM

Ok, i'm confused, how can this company so widely publicize and sell their bootlegs without being caught, if in fact they are all bootlegs. What is the difinitive way to know for fact (without a doubt) that cd is bootleg. I mean, some have even admitted that people try to post bootleg cd's here like they are official releases.
drakemarone, December 12, 2006; 1:31 PM

I CAN ASSURE THEY ARE ALL BOOTLEGS!
All the ORIGINAL anime and videogame soundtrack cds ARE PRINTED IN JAPAN and FOR JAPAN ONLY! You can buy ORIGINAL japan cd from www.cdjapan.co.jp
These bootleg cds are alla factory pressed, the sound quality is the same of the original and ofter the artworks are the same.
But they are chinese-taiwanese copies! ILLEGAL and CHEAP!! All the anime & videogames bootleg cds from Taiwan are priced LESS THAN ONE US$! If You pay lots of money for a taiwanese cd You are wasting Your money dear!
Never pay more than 3-4 US$ for a taiwanese cd! It's a bootleg!

I remember being caught out several years ago when I didn't know better. Then I came across the site mentioned above that listed all the known bootleg labels.
Looking back on it now, the relative cheapness of these Japanese labels and their origin (Taiwan) should have got the alarm bells ringing.
