New Intrada 2001 Alex North Release

Anyone have any thoughts on this new release? I was a bit surprised... 2001 is my fav film of
all time. We have all heard Goldsmiths reconstruction of this score... but I did order my copy I
am sure it will be interesting to hear.

Yes a good release always a good thing to have the original out there but yet it's not one i'd be rushing out to buy. I kind of expected something that had never been released before in any form. Still I am always happy to hear of long lost masters being discovered. The last few years have been bountiful in releases of scores that ten years ago I would not have thought possible. So on that thought I wish everyone on the forum a Happy new year and lets hope that 2007 will spring a few more surprises!

Very courageous by Intrada to release it with 3000 copies. I mean this score has been released some time ago by Varese as a re-recording, conducted by the great Goldsmith. But that doesn´t matter to me: i prefer the original ,although mono recorded stuff and the cover art is excellent and better than the Varese art work by M.J.Peak.

Greetings and merry Christmas to all of you

Once it was announced I snatched up my copy in about 3 seconds... at the same time I was thinking as I was reloading the page to see what the release would be I was hoping it would be something crappy I could care less about and instead I saw the titel and thought ok buy it don't regret not getting it. I am surprised there are still copiues same with Saturn 3 that one is very cool. (and I already own the Goldsmith version of 2001)

I wonder why they didn't also do Frank Cordell's rejected score.

Listening to the original North version of EAT MEAT and KILL against the more recent Goldsmith
version is interesting ... very cool indeed. It even feels more stripped down and frightening.

Great score from great composer. Operates on many levels simultaneously -- visual, emotive, compositional ( melodic, harmonic, rhythmic, coloristic ) Honored to write for www.alexnorthmusic.com whereon my review, Heart and Soul -- Alex North's 2001, appears, as well as several others by me on his work, including my essay, Transforming An Art; review of Sanya Shoilevska Henderson's North bio, and big essay notes piece, Death and Resurrection -- Alex North's Last "Lost " Score. Hope you can visit. -- Michael McDonagh
