Help identifying music
The following audio clip was taken from the Tsukamoto film A Snake of June (Rokugatsu No Hebi). The music in question is not featured on the soundtrack cd released in Japan (composed by Chu Ishikawa), so I am assuming that it is the work of a major classical composer.
Any help in identifying this piece of music will be greatly appreciated.
Please ignore the various ambient noises (e.g. the sound of pouring rain).

I can't tell you the title. But sounds to me as if it an excerpt from a Mass, presumably composed around 1820-1870 or so... Maybe a setting of the "Kyrie eleison". It's very likely that it is indeed the work of a major composer. You should check out Beethoven, Schubert and the likes.

I listened to that clip. I like that kind of music.
But it probably isn't the wok of a major classical composer. I've heard music like that on so many CDs, from Jesper Kyd to Dr Dre. It sounds similar to track seven off the CD Surrounded, by Tipper (not soundtrack related).
That kind of an intro is pretty mainstream; I'm sure Ishikawa is fully capable of composing something like that. But it could be by anybody, really. It was, most likely, simply left off the soundtrack.

I can tell you one thing: It's been monkeyed-with! It's lower and slower than the original recording.
With the magic of DSP, I have been able to re-shift and re-pace it +3 steps and 170%.
I am now able to make out the following lyrics: "[something] eleison, agnus dei [something] eleison."
Is there more?
