Question

"Phantasm/Phantasm II", HELP!...

Hello...

Please, I would like to know if I have on my hands an authentic OOP and hard to come by 1991 Silva Screen cd ''Phantasm/Phantasm II'' release with label # FILM CD 071 and not a very cleverly crafted pirate CD-R, an exact replica of the original.

For starters, the NON-PLAYING label side on my cd copy is solid white colored with black print and has the code # 5349B2522 (space) 21 lightly printed in black around the center.

The PLAYING silver side around the center shows the number mentioned above from the front in reverse and also the code # R049-1705-5082 a bit further out engraved in very fine silver print.

Thanks in advance.

Hmmm, unless SILVA maybe printed (several) different looking batches I afraid you might got a boot.

The label side on my copy is pitch black with white text.

The ring states the item code FILMCD 071 and the pressing plant PILZ. Which was a German or Austrian company.

Ford Thaxton should answer such question over at the FSM board.

Oh by the way, happy new year to the great folks here at SC.C !!

Sorry, X, but your copy is definitely a bootleg/pirate fake.

Damn, I wanted to hear otherwise even though 99.9% of me said I was scammed, and what a pirate CD-R it is, almost flawless.

As a WARNING to all, there is another copy and the only one one being auctioned again on eBay. Don't be caught in their web.

Thanks for your input!

Sounds like a job for Vinnie from Brooklyn.

I'm willing to bet that the CD(R) that you received was one of the pirated batch being sold by the infamous swashbucklers that call themselves Monsters In Motion:

I would not mind to knowingly pay for the MIM pirate cd or for any of their pirate titles. I paid more than double the MIM price for this piece of sh.. thinking I was going to receive an authentic copy. It is imposssible to tell if it is a pirate cd from the eBay description. I am quite pissed about these eBay scams! I'm still contemplating of the action or actions I should take. Perhaps Mr. Vinnie could fly to Michigan and take the necessary first steps.

Dude, I bought it when it was new; yours sounds authentic enough. but why do you care so much, I wonder? Its the sounds that are important. because when you're dead whose going to care, really. Will your kids really care if "Dad's" Phantasam CD was real or not? they'll jusst want the trust fund money (seriously). What I want to know is, why didn't you buy it when it was new in 1991? I was at a convention and was getting my Evil Dead Lp autographed and the guy behind me said he never knew an Evil Dead Lp existed! I bought it new when I was 12 years old at a record store? If you guys are so "into" horror why didn't you buy the stuff when it was new tio begin with? Sometimes you may "miss" and "screw-up" in buying a soundtract on occasion (I did that twice--Dawn of the Dead cdV.s. and Psycho II cd v.s.). but man, what did YOU buy when You were 12--we should have all been using our allowences to buy horror soundtracks!!! YOU MUST BE LOYAL TO BUYING HORROR SOUNDTRACKS (I bought The Fog when I was 11--24 years ago--I still have it). And I ordered my Dad to buy Kiss Alive! when IT was new in 1976. Where are the LOYAL record buying fans? It's like a guy turns 18 and then decides to start getting "into" soundtracks and stuff "way past" any date of release. It bugs me seriously.
What you have is authentic, I just checked. best wishes--

Great!... Let's swap CD's then. Give me your authentic copy and I'll give you my counterfeit copy for 100 bucks including free shipping but I'll keep all my KISS records for the time being. X junior might still be interested in them down the road. Deal?

Hm... different pressings indeed!

I bought mine upon release in "58 Dean Street Records" (R.I.P.) in London and it therefore is 100% genuine.

The non-playing side is silver with blue print. On the left hand side it says "FILM CD 071 Made in Switzerland". Funny, since I am Swiss...;-)

The playing side has a ring print of "ICM L061305 FILMCD 071 1 1 3 2 4 6 0"

So it seems there are different pressings around - no need to panic yet, X, it might at all be genuine?

Best,
Burnie

P.S. @ safeinheaven: You suggest that you should always "be there" when something interesting happens. I reckon you never ever will stumble across something that happened in the past that might grab your interest? Or are you just the cool guy that always was there first? I assume when somebody tells you he has a headache you already had a brain tumor once?
