Do you also possess the dvd/vhs of the films from which you have the OST ?
Or is it of no interest to you ? Or do you choose to have the films with your favorite OSTs ? Or having seen it in the theatres is enough ? Or... ?
In my case, I would love to have some, but I can't find them : Il prato, Allonsanfan, Chi l'ha vista morire, L'apocalypse des animaux, Via mala, Cacciatori di navi... well, I go on seeking...

Hi,
I have some of the films of my favorite scores...like Lord of the Rings and Star Wars...but most of the time it is enough for me to have seen the films (in theatres or on dvd). There are cases where I don“t really like the film, but I the love the score and I also have favorite scores of films I have never seen, for instance Under Fire (Goldsmith). Great score but haven never seen the film (though I would like to). So for me it's a mixed bag I guess.

I also have some of the movies but not that much. But just like you I would really like to see some particular titles whose soundtracks I have but these are often quite obscure (and I must admit I don't pursue them too actively) -- like "Zenabel" for example.

I have most movies on dvd or VHS from where i've got the score. There are also scores of movies i will probably never see ori intend to see and some where i've only seen em in the cinema or on TV.

I think I have around 40-50 DVDs and they probably divide up in three sections of roughly similar size:
a) Movie DVDs without any significant soundtrack extra.
b) Movie DVDs including an isolated music track
c) Movie DVD sets including a soundtrack CD.
I believe that out of the 500+ soundtrack CDs I have, I only got to see maybe 100 movies of those represented on them.
I think my attitude is similar to Dorian's. I would really like to see some movies which I only know from their score so far, but I'd not spend too much efforts or money on realizing that wish. I have had some really amazing 'discoveries' though when I did! (e.g. Funeral in Berlin, The Bourne Supremacy, Once Upon A Time In The West)

Hi all,
i collect scores as you,but for example i like also collecting italian films on dvd especially giallos,"poliziotteschi",peplum and Fulci's horror.i have hundreds of them, but many times i record on tv many unreleased rare film which here in Italy is easy to watch......during the night ahha!
Every time i watch an old italian gem ,then i buy the score, but obviously it may happen the opposite thing.
Finally for me, collecting italian dvds has almost the same importance than collecting scores!
P.S.To gerald.wojtal-aillaud:
try www.intermezzomedia.com. they also sells many many many rare italian dvds...
Ciao;)

Even though I have a substantial number of DVD's and VHS tapes, I don't have the films to all the soundtracks in my collection, now way, too much stuff.
There is great film music out there whose films might not be able to hold my now short spanned attention, like westerns and war movies which really never did to begin with ("Lust In The Dust" of course is another story... I wonder if there ever was a score release for this farce?) and vice versa.
Sometimes in order to futher appreciate and understand a complex film score or even justify a 'bad' score I haphazardly have purchased, I might just consider watching the film so I resort in renting it out if available.
In any case, I am a sucker for and more devoted to film music but a good and even more so obscure and strange film regardless of its score is always cordially greeted.

Hello,
Great question, I only own a handful of dvd's, most of the scores I own I have never seen the movie and in most cases don't care if I ever do. For me it's very hard to watch a movie over and over again, But music is another story I never get tired of it. Because of this It makes alot more sense for me to watch movies on t.v. or to rent movies and own music. Another factor for me is there is alot of actors I don't care for and so I won't see the films they make, I even hate it when thier picture is on the cover of the cd when I purchase the score.

I can relate to what deg63iami has to say. I had a hard time dealing with Mel Gibsons face on several recordings film score recordings.
Brooke Shields? No interest whatsoever in that broad although I do have the soundtrack to Sahara (Morricone) which I am rather fond of.
Same goes for Julia Roberts. I have no interest whatsoever in that overrated so and so although the score from Sleeping With The Enemy (Goldsmith) is damn good.
As for having the film as well as the score. Well, I purchased a nice 16mm print of Bride Of Frankenstein some 20 odd years ago and have the Silva re-recording of it's score as well as just about any other recording featuring the Franz Waxman music. I also have a 16mm print of Psycho and cherish most any interpretation of that score.
I considered selling my Bride Of Frankenstein print awhile back and began experiencing serious anxiety over the prospect of doing so.
