I cannot contribute anything from my own first-hand experience, but I know that a friend of mine visited Rome in the summer of 2005 and was hoping for a soundtrack safari there, too. I think he asked your question here as well then and got rather disappointing responses - they all said there weren't really any interesting soundtrack stores in Rome. After his visit, he could only confirm that and also said that Italian soundtracks weren't even cheaper there (several even more expensive than in other countries). :-(

I hope anyone else here or you yourself will be able to proove the opposite, but so far I guess you might rather watch out for a film music concert in the eternal city.

A - maybe silly - suggestion: Why not send an email to Claudio Simonetti (www.simonetti.org)? He should know. The reason for this idea is that he is incredibly helpful and friendly and *always* replies to emails very nicely and quickly.

A long shot, but who knows?

The best soundtracks stores of Italy are NOT in Rome, but in Milano, Firenze, Torino, Verona and Rimini.

Rome is full of little shops but they don't sell rare cds. Try using online sotres such as www.intermezzomedia.com

Italy is FULL of shoes shops.
In the big cities prices are very high (ex Milano), but outside there are thousands of good prices, specially in the malls.
