Plunkett & MacLeane???
I recently purchased Craig Armstrong's "Plunkett & MacLeane", and I'm wondering if maybe I could get some feedback on how good it is. I have checked out reviews, and it seems like most people only have good things to say about it. I found out about it kinda by accident. Years back when I saw a preview for "Romeo Must Die", I was sold on the movie by the music used in the preivew. I bought the soundtrack to Romeo when it came out and wouldn't you know it, the song wasn't there. Now, keeping in mind this was a long time ago and I had no real knowledge of scores. So, some time later I heard it used in a preview for "The Patriot". I was determined to find out what it was. I found that it was Craig Armstrong, and the song was titled "Escape", but still didn't know what it was from. Then, I suppose after growing tired of looking, I stumbled across this site and forum, asked about it here, and was led in the right direction. I have just decided to pick it up, and want to know what you think about it, I hope to recieve it within a week or so.

IT'S AMAZING! For me the standout track is "Business: Part 1/Part 2/Part 3". It's quite energizing and triumphant. I've heard this also in several trailers. But yes, it's a marvelous album. I hope you enjoy it all!

I find it ok, but am not THAT enthusiastic about it. I prefer his scores for BONE COLLECTOR and THE QUIET AMERICAN. I really don't like it when tracks on soundtrack albums flow into each other, and I think PLUNKETT & MACLEANE is such an album.
I would love to hear Armstrong score a Bond movie.

handstand,
I just ordered Bone Collector this afternoon, how is The Quiet American? I didn't think about grabbing that one up.

THE QUIET AMERICAN is obviously Asian-flavoured, but is typically Armstrong as well with a very catchy main theme. I wished the latter would be played out more clearly and more often on the CD though and the Asian vocalist sometimes sounds a bit shrill. I bought this in a combined Movie DVD+CD set, and the main theme plays over the DVD's menu screens all the time which helped me familiarizing myself with it a lot.
I think THE BONE COLLECTOR is easier to get into without the movie. By the way, the DVD version of Bone Collector includes an isolated score track (at least the German version does).

P&M is an aquired taste. It's got a lot of synth sound design and cues that go no place. but some tracks, like "The Hanging", are excellent. But even then, you have to like choir, and you have to like electronic elements. So, this isn't going to be everybody's cut-of-tea.
