Max Dugan Returns / I Ought To Be In Pictures
Hi!...
What do you guys think of the newest limited soundtrack release by Intrada? Will you purchase it?
Personally, I never heard of these movies but I do like the music from the sound clips given especially Shire's ''Max Dugan Returns''.

I never knew Hamlisch had won multiple Oscars, at least this was the clue given by Intrada for the other composer.
In another related thread a few days back, a fellow member suggested the complete ''Summer '42'' by Legrand together with ''Class of '44'' by Shire... not a bad idea which would have been great!

I don't think I'll play the teasing guessing game again... it seems I never hit the nail damn it... OUCH!

Another disappointing offering, in my opinion. I couldn't care less about these scores or the movies that they were written for. :-/

Hi Serifiot!
Yes, Marvin Hamlisch wan multiple Oscars... in the same year!! It was in the 1974 ceremony, when he carried home all the musical Oscars corresponding to 1973:
- Best original score: "The Way We Were" (my favourite that year was Goldsmith's "Papillon")
- Best original song: "The Way We Were" (beautiful song, indeed)
- Musical adaptation: "The Sting" (great rework of the Scott Joplin tunes)
I ignore if Hamlisch has won any other Oscars, but, no doubt, 1973 was his year.
I think the score for "Max Dugan Returns" is pretty nice, and I don't think the film is so bad. I watched it many, many years ago, and I really liked it. This CD will be a part of my collection in short.
The other score, the one by Marvin Hamlisch, is unknown for me. Anyway, Mr. Hamlisch has composed rather good soundtracks ("The Swimmer", "Ice Castles", "D.A.R.Y.L."...) , so it can be a good addition too.
Best regards,
Angel

Oh yes, I forgot it! That's one of his greatest scores, along with SOPHIE'S CHOICE. I also forgot this one! :-)

It's becoming quite common on this message board --and with some certain people especially-- that all the soundtrack related news and all the new releases are disappointing, not interesting, "I would know what would be better and what should have been released instead...".
(To whom it concerns) I find you maybe a little amusing ! But you should think if we already haven't heard it before from you before writing something to us.

A strange compilation. Also the running time is extremly short (Marvin Hamlish 14 min including a song by RANDY CRAWFORD).
In this case i will save my money for the next Intrada release, hoping it will be something more exciting (like 2001 by North).
And Yes: the odd couple by Neal Hefti would be that fine thing
Greetings

Dorian,
One man's trash is another man's treasure, for sure, but everyone has the right to give their opinion, especially since serifiot asked EVERYONE what they think about this release, not just those who are happy about it. Everyone has a right to respond with their opinion, whether it be favorable or not. It's true that most of the film scores that have been released on CD recently do not hold any interest for me, but that doesn't mean that I should exclude myself from stating my opinion. Like coma said, when a worthwhile release comes out, I'm more than willing to shout "Woo-HOO!" and sing its praises on the message board, but more often than not I think that a lot of plastic and paper and time and energy have been wasted on manufacturing a bunch of humdrum stinkers.

Mr. Nightmare: I agree with you both in general and regarding the current release.
I was just making a silly observation there. Perhaps I'm too much waiting for that (any) good future release too.

...oh well, SOLD OUT!
