THE INSPECTOR (1962) Malcolm Arnold

An LP of music from the film THE INSPECTOR (UK, 1962...retitled "LISA" for the US market) by Malcolm Arnold is listed on this site as being on Columbia CS 8680. I wonder if this may have been added in error, as I've never met anyone or spoken to anyone on the Internet that has ever seen this LP and the general concensus is that it doesn't exist and that only the two 1962 singles of the theme music from THE INSPECTOR issued in the UK by Decca and HMV and recorded by The Wayfarers and Ferrante and Teicher were ever released regarding this film and I know they exist as I have both of them in my collection. Has anyone ever come across the LP and is it an American pressing or was it released in the UK as well?

I have never seen one myself either, however two people have it listed in their collections here and both have their email addresses shown in their profiles so I would suggest contacting one of them directly.

The "CS" prefix for a Columbia record makes me guess it would be a U.S. pressing but only an actual owner of the record could confirm that 100%.

Thanks, 42zaphod. I shall take your advice about that. Of course, if it was a US pressing, it would have been under it's US title, LISA.

My guess is the Columbia LP is a recording of themes conducted by who knows who in which a theme from the Malcolm Arnold score is included.

There is no American released score recording from the film on that label I'm certain.

You could be right about that. It would have helped if whoever had submitted the LP label and catalogue number to this site had also submitted a track list for the LP.

Hello David:

I have been in feverish pursuit of The Wayfarers' recording of the theme from THE INSPECTOR. No luck via e-Bay yet. Any idea where else I might try?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Ron, this is a rare Decca single. I've never seen it turn up on eBay. Usually, though, The Wayfarers "Whistle Down The Wind" 45 turns up regularly on eBayUK and there may be a couple on there now. I got my copy of "Lisa's Theme From The Inspector" by The Wayfarers (Decca 45-F. 11473) off a seller on GEMM.COM over four years ago and it has turned up on there at least once since then. Your best bet is to either contact a seller on GEMM who is selling "Whistle Down The Wind" and ask him if he's got "The Inspector", or contact a GEMM seller such as Jim Wilson Record Mail Order, 77, Burnham Road, Chingford, Essex, E4 8PA, who has vast stocks of old singles and just may be able to supply you with it, or track one down for you. His email address is: jwilsonsATbtinternetDOTcom There may be a lot of sellers who have this single but simply never get around to listing it. Good Luck in your search.

David.
