Question

Basil Poledouris' A Whale For The Killing question.

Hey there guys,

Concerning the A Whale For The Killing soundtrack that was released by a label called Aries, I am just wondering if this really is a bootleg?

I know that in this cd's listing on this site it does say bootleg, I just want to be sure, that's all.

Thanks in advance,
Ian.

I bought mine from a very reputable trader and specialist in soundtracks in the UK, from whom I have since bought, who told me that it was NOT a bootleg. He abhores anything bootleg and does not buy or sell them.

Some people say it is, some say it is not. I have one and it looks real to me, but I believe in aliens too. Does it really matter if you want the music?

I had one years ago and it's definitely a bootleg. The sound quality is so atrociously bad for it to be a legitimate pressing - sounds like it was dubbed off a 10th generation cassette tape.

well, I for example have this one and the CD is a factory pressing.
Soundquality is ok.
Bootleg or not? well, I don't care. :)

anyway.. it's about time for an official release with more score on it.

No doubt about it! 100% factory pressed & 100% bootleg. Confirm and sign!

I have the original composer promo cd that was released years ago and it contains 8 tracks from a whale for the killing!
also included Flight of the intruder and Iron eagle (suite).
It is a factory pressed disc and named The Film music of Basil Poledouris!(BP-001)
All other "releases" are non- official!
Hope this helps.

Actually this is a slick bootleg masquerading as a legit promo. Good sound, too. But all the Kraft Engel contact info was put on there to deceive.

Sorry, but this is no more official than the old Whale For The Killing boot.

Thanks for all the responses, guys.

I actually have that compilation "promo" mentioned above, and like rmensing, I thought it was legit too. Since the A Wale For The Killing cd only contains about another 5-10 more minutes of score than what's on that compilation, I wanted to be sure that the cd was legit before I plonked money down for those 5-10 minutes. But, it's turned out that both these cd's are boots....

I don't mean to come off as holier-than-thou concerning bootlegs, as I have a few in my collection myself. But as I said above, the cd only contains about ten more minutes of music than what's on the comp, so I figured that I'd only go for it if it was genuine.

Thanks again,
Ian.

is there a way that you can prove this is a bootleg? mcmahan
I bought this from a very reliable source so I don't have any doubts this cd should be a fake...
What makes you think or know this cd is a boot?

You should contact Ford Thaxton if you would really like to know the answer. You can find him on the FSM message board.

I've heard the Aries and the coupled Iron Eagle releases. The Eagle one is the one you want, definitely, if you can get your grubby hands on it. Best sound quality, and, as far as I could tell, no less music! The Aries edition seems to gain its extra minutes (just under 4, actually) through a transparent and jarring copy/pasting-type repetition. Then again, I could be mishearing. Anyone want to correct me?

Maybe the Aries edition presents how it appeared in the movie, though, while the Iron Eagle version reflects how it was recorded. He did the same pasting trick with Flesh & Blood and no one seems to have noticed.
