For Your Consideration

Hi!...

How many of you people are actively collecting and adding the so called 'For Your Consideration' promotional film scores to your cherished soundtrack collection?

Which ones do you have?

I have to admit I have none!

I wouldn't mind owning some personal favorite FYC film music promos but I honestly don't know how to detect the real stuff from the fake ones and I don't want to be fooled in purchasing and paying a hefty price for something that is not authentic so I let them pass.

Are FYC's supposed to be silver pressed CD's? Are they CD-R's? Either one? I am just not sure and leery.

In any case, do you guys know of a trusted soul or souls out there in cyberspace (even a trusted ebay seller would do) that specifically specializes in selling genuine FYC promo film scores?

PS

I recently watched "Brokeback Mountain" (I know, I know but I never got the chance) on DVD for the first time and besides the brilliant and dignified direction by Ang Lee, the beautiful strokes of cinematography by Rodrigo Prieto, the fine performances and the powerful human factor in the story, I found Gustavo Santaollala's compositions perfectly binding with the movie scenes and overall pleasant to listen to with awfully melancholic and lonely yet beautiful undertones.

I would love to view this film one day on the BIG screen and of course own the complete film score!

It seems that Santaollala's complete film score (I would think it's complete) is only the FYC promotional CD listed here in SC's database.

Basically, I guess this not so popular (acoustically boring to some of you) film music score of "Brokeback Montain" is what prompted me to add this thread.

I looked on eBay under oscar promos and FYC with no luck.

I remember soon after winning best score for *2005*, a FYC promotional CD fetched a ridiculously expensive price tag on eBay.

There is even a thread in SC's database concerning this.

Not that I will be willing to pay this sum of money (I mean I like the music but let's not get crazy here), I have never bothered until now to look for a FYC "Brokeback Mountain" promo CD.

Is this FYC score hard to come by?

Any hints where I would be able to find one at a decent price from a trusted soul?

That's all!...

;- x

Cheers & thanks in advance!!

Oscar promo scores aren't always necessarily "complete" by any means....they're simply released to garner nomination considerations for that particular score, and can be quite different from eiyther a commercially-available release or even a "complete" score of ALL the music from a film.

I've seen quite a few promo scores around on file sharing and music sharity places online....including Brokeback Mountain.

krieqerq69... thanks for the tip!

I actually did think of your suggestion but have never stumbled on any of these file sharing FYC websites you just mentioned. If you know of any, please share the websites with us or if you prefer, you can drop me an email at serifiot@yahoo.com. I would be very interested and grateful... thanks!

Some original oscar promo discs are cdrs, some are pressed CDs. The last couple of years it seems like most of them have been given out to members of the Academy as CDRs.

Hi all

All one has to do is think what these are intended for & you will answer all your questions.

Having worked with these for a number of years & in my day it was cassettes & Lps & then finally cds, they are produced for a very limited market & use.

Therefore 99.9% of the time, there will not be any fancy packing, art work or in some cases even track listings, it is a product designed for limited exposure & to a small group.

The studios will not bother to go to any lenghts to produce a product that has no need for the extra exspense, heck Academy campaigns can cost a fortune and just as the entire hobby of score/soundtrack collecting shows, studios do not look at this as the most important part of the campaign/product.

An award for Best Score may shift a few cds, but actual admissions to see the film, doubtful.

So as the posts above state these things are often 'shoddy' looking & not always complete, there is no set method to what is produced & in many cases the composers don't have much or any input as to their production. It as ways boils down to investment v's reward & while another Oscar quote does mean something for such catorgories as music, it means not a lot & thats what this comes to.

What many who have never worked in the film industry often don't realise, is that it's just a product, it's the same as a can of beans & those in charge, normally accountants, need to see the % of reward for the investment.

So promo Academy Discs are never all that they appear to be.

Now a true collectors disc is 1 that the composer themselves has been involved in & often paid for, now you will in most cases get the compplete score & providing the studio allows, some art work to go with it.

My opinion, look for composer promotional discs rather than Academy discs, unless you want it for the 'oddity value'.

Whatever the disc you listen to, enjoy the music.

Serifiot, there aren't any specific share places just for promo scores, but if you simply check around through various blogs you'll find many devoted to soundtracks, and some will post promo scores whenever and wherever they might be available or have come into the hands of the blogmasters. I'm not going to post links to any specific ones....you'll have to find them for yourself, but they ARE out there.

I am glad I have found this post, I was searching for it for my friend. While
searching for it online, I have also found the https://www.essaymama.com/ website
link. I am a school student and every month I got a lot of assignments from my
mentor. Because of those assignments, I can't spend my time with my family and
friends. But after finding that website, I can spend my time with my friends and
family.
