For all who have received the Karate Kid Box set...
I was wondering who has received it, and what there thoughts on the set are. I have read over at Film Score Monthly that there is a disputed glitch in the first disc. As I am anxiously awaiting my copy, any inforamtion at all aboutthis much anticipated release will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Daryl from Maryland

They are taking awfully long to arrive. Mine were shipped yesterday and I had placed my order hours after they were released. I hope it's worth the wait and I hope the sound quality is fine as always. Soon I will find out. It's really a hassle to return defective items.

Incredibly, I received my copy on March 26th, the day that they were supposed to begin shipping! I have only positive things to say about this set...the music, the packaging, the liner notes...exquisite!
The purported "glitch" that joelfan71 is referring to occurs 0:15 into track 12 on disc 1, but it just sounds to me like some sound from within the orchestra room itself, not a digital pop or glitch. However, my wife, who has very good ears, is convinced that the sound is indeed a glitch and not just "room noise", so go figure. I guess I don't have a definitive answer about that, but room noise or glitch, it is so short and unobtrusive to the listening experience that it doesn't bother me in the least. Call me crazy, but to my ears it flows seamlessly with the piece, as it strikes in perfect offbeat to the rhythm and seems to signal the upcoming change in melody that occurs immediately after...which leads me to ponder whether or not it may actually have been intentional, part of the orchestration. I'm curious to see what you guys (and gals...?) think once you receive your copies.

Its not a glitch. Being a musician myself its some form of stick or rimshot timed very nicely leading to next bar, but the biggest give away is the reverb, which once you hear should ease any fears.

Got my copies yesterday. Couldn“t find out any glitches. Just listened in part 1. Nice music with quite a lot of repetitions.

email,
You are the first person to agree with my assumption that it is simply a well-placed, light percussion strike. When I mentioned that on the FSM message board, no one agreed, and some even thought I was joking. Being a drummer myself, it seemed obvious, but with so much opposition (even my wife thinks it's a glitch, as I mentioned above) I began to second-guess my assumption. Thanks for voicing your opinion and supporting mine!

By the way, for whoever's interested, here's the link to the aforementioned FSM forum discussion regarding this topic:

What did you expect, the latest Quentin Tarentino screenplay? By the way, I can't wait to see Grindhouse/Death Proof this weekend!

I received mine, in the UK, 4th April, not bad going and I agree with Nightmare (not often mind). Great packaging and well put together, try as hard as I might, I cant notice the glitch, as yet. But maybe be able to better hear it when I play it on my brother's system.

Hi everybody.
I have received karate kid few days ago.
I have a problem with karate kid 2 score, track 17: the last 5 seconds of music are missing: the score stops and there are 5 seconds of silence......
What about your copy? Track 17 is full edit or does it have the same problem?
tyuan74, April 13, 2007; 3:34 PM

tyuan,
My copy sounds the same as yours. However, it seems to me like the track is supposed to end abruptly like that, to indicate a moment of suspense or surprise (I don't remember exactly what is happening in the film at this moment or else it would be easier to confirm my suspicion), and if you listen closely there is a slight fade out on the last note, so it doesn't sound to me like an error or glitch. On my copy there is actually only about 3 seconds of silence after the music ends, which is typical of many CDs. I agree that the abrupt ending/fadeout on this track sounds out of place at first, but after a few listens I'm convinced that it was supposed to be that way.

it's very strange in my opinion. Usually the music brake with a better fading...
Thanks for the answer anyway! ^__^

I have a previous promo edition of Karate Kid score, and I have made a confrontation between the first and the new recording.
Vare Sarabande recording has got a better sound quality, but in the first promo release there's more music!!
Track 17 of Karate Kid II is 4 seconds longer in the first edition, the track finishes with a 5 seconds fade out.
Instead the same track, in the Varese edition, cuts in a very bad way, and the last 4 seconds of music are missing!!!!
Varese, what shall we do now? ;___;
