300 Soundtrack - "The Hot Gates"
At the start of the "The Hot Gates" (#12) there is a deep sounding wind instrument being played - obviously a traditional Persian or Middle Eastern instrument. On the Soundtrack there is a mention of Kavals, Bass Flutes, Xaphoons, Clarinets, but after listening to samples of these they sound little like the deep and heavy sound of the featured instrument. I also thought that it may be a Ney - a traditional Iranian instrument, but again the samples I heard were disimilar. Some have called it a "horn" of some kind. Everyone will have heard it before as it is featured in many soundtracks - Kingdom of Heaven for example. Does anyone know what it is called? It may be one of the instruments I mentioned above, but played in a certain way. Thank you for your time.

Ah, yes. I believe you are referring to the NANUK, an instrument played by Eskimos.
