Song in "Sixteen Candles" when they are leaving the gym???
Does anybody know the name of the song in "Sixteen Candles" when they are leaving the gym... and who performs it?
It goes something like... "Ooooh. A-haaa. I'd like to die young..."
IMDB just lists a bunch of songs from the movie.

<respond deleted by me because it was kind of rude (even though I was responding to a kind of
rude response)>

darthmaher, ignoring the negative responses, and concentrating on trying to solve your problem, not having seen the film myself yet, does this help ?

Thanks, pat19171, it helps a lot. That is a great reference page.
It still doesn't answer my question as the author of that page doesn't seem to know either:
"(guy singer)
Written and Performed by ???"
But thank you for your help. I really appreciate it. I'll keep looking. If I ever run into John Hughes, I'll have to ask him. :)

Great question! The song is "Ring Me Up" by the Divinyls. It is only on a out of print Divinyls album called "Desperate". Usualy $40 - $100 used. Can be found on Amazon and sometimes e-bay. That song drove me crazy as it is not on all versions of the video (VHS vs, TV, etc.) Loved the brief part I heard and it took me a long time to track it down. Enjoy!

I believe the song that darthmaher is refering to is "Take a Chance" by the Divinyls on the TV/Cable version of the movie.

The song is "Ring Me Up" and starts with the "Ooooh A-haaa" listed in the question. The other Divinyls song may very well be on a version, but "Ring Me Up" is the one you are referring to. On a side note, the out of print album is back in print, saw it at fye.com you can even sample the song to confirm. Enjoy.
Recently discovered another great soundtrack song from the Divinyls. It is called "Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart" and is on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Movie Soundtrack. Check it out.

It is "Take A Chance" by the Divinyls without a doubt. It's available on Napster to listen to without buying it. The album is called "Desperate".

It is not "Take a Chance". The song as described in the original question is "Ring Me Up". Have no desire to be the champion of Divinyls trivia but that song drove me nuts after hearing it on the movie when the big guy throws the girl over his shoulder at the coat table when they are leaving the gym. Took me awhile to track it down and the opening of "Ring Me Up" is the part heard in the movie. Enjoy.
darthmaher, did you ever get the song?
pythonian, November 19, 2008; 4:21 PM

YES. I found it. Thanks! I know why some people say "Take A Chance" is the song. On i-
Tunes, the song listed doesn't match the song sample. The sample for the "Take A Chance" is
actually "Ring me Up" (and I'm guessing vice versa). I never even thought to check any of the
other samples after clicking on "Ring Me Up" and hearing a different song. But there is a review
on Amazon.com that mentions that the tags are wrong. So I went back to i-Tunes and went
down the list of songs clicking on samples. Sure enough, when I clicked "Take A Chance", "Ring
Me Up" played. And it was exactly the song I was looking for. Mission accomplished! Thanks
again!!!!
