In my ears, the old japanese Sony CD sounds definitely better. The Prometheus release is not
that crisp and not very well balanced too. The sound is somewhat harsh. Just my two cents...

Yikes!

Should I discard my cherished soundtracks and have them replaced by available Japanese editions?

What a nightmare!

Folks,

You are pretty much all WRONG.

The new RUBY CARIO CD was remastered by James Nelson at DIGITAL OUTLAND for PROMETHEUS using the Japanese release as our master and he corrected a minor flaw, the channels were REVERSED (Violins on the Right, not the left) and gave it a somewhat warmer sound.

Mr. Barry heard the master before it went out and approved it.

As for THE WHITE BUFFALO, the masters that existed were taken from the music stem of the film and it took quite a bit of work by Mr. Nelson to make it sound as good as it do

The Other title you menion was done before Mr. Nelson and myself worked with PROMETHEUS and that goes back to the early 90's.

Any other questions

Not to sound ungrateful but I was not very happy and sort of disappointed with the sound quality of the latest Prometheus release for Goldsmith's "Ransom".

I did bring this up on a previous SC thread when the album was first released but I was not persistant.

I guess and truly hope Prometheus did whatever humanly possible to improve the sound quality from the previous releases from other labels... but damn it, something is lacking.

''Ransom'' is truly a beautiful score and should one day receive an even more improved sound quality release.

(Ford Thaxton) I don't remember anyone asking you a question.

Maybe Coma has something wrong with his inner lobe systematic sound placement abilities.

"Not to sound ungrateful but I was not very happy and sort of disappointed with the sound quality of the latest Prometheus release for Goldsmith's "Ransom". "

Well, It's a vast improvement over the SILVA RELEASE (I know, I producted it) and given the available source (an 35 Year old LP), James Nelson at DIGITIAL OUTLAND did in my view an outstanding job in getting it to sound as good as it does.

If you happen to know when the masters are (We looked for over a year and came up dry) please let me know, otherwise this is the best possible sound you can get (with the current state of the art) that is possible.

See above comments.

My friend, the masters are lost, so this is about as good as your ar going to get on this one.

That's life.

"(Ford Thaxton) I don't remember anyone asking you a question."

You seem to forget, the original poster ASKED A QUESTION that started this discussion

'HI, DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THERE IS ANY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE jAPANESE AND THE PROMETHEUS RELEASES ABOUT SOUND QUALITY ?"

Note the Question mark.....

It was a question about this release, it wasn't directed at any one person.

I Just decided to answer it.

Do you have an issue with that?
