Satan Bug Release Question
Hi Has anybody purchased the FSM release of THE SATAN BUG yet? What is feeling among collectors for this sort of release? Is it good to have it in whatever format or is this possibly a bad road to go down. Personally I have purchased because I love the score what do you think?

Since no master tapes are available, it is the best possible production we will ever receive for this Goldsmith score until master tapes are miraculously unearthed.
Personally, anything new from Jerry Goldsmith is a BIG welcome... even a CD release with him snoring.

Jerry was known for his interesting experimental way of snoring ;-)
But, yes! I welcome this release, although I would rather have the music without
the soundeffects (duh), this is possibly the closest we can get to the real thing.
I welcome the way FSM describes it and calls it an "Archival Release".
But I do hope that this will not become a common thing.
Then I'd rather have new state-of-the-art recordings.
But even then I would buy the original as well (if my wallet permits)
enjoy the music, Wim

Hello,
Great post, I don't think that it's a good thing to discourage labels in anyway from releasing scores based only on the fact they aren't always in the purist form. Of corse I prefer the best original recordings as possible, But when they are not available or in some cases they are incomplete or have bad sound quality you have to do the best you can with what you've got. I see no problem with this FSM release. There are alot of scores that will never see the light of day if we become to picky about the purity. I even welcome releases such as Tadlow's "The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes" and Intrada's "Spellbound" as long as they are Painstakenly done with such care and as much attention to detail as possible. Well that's my two cent on the subject. Thanks-
Best Regards,
David Phoenix, AZ.
