Any Bollywood fans? Need some recomendations
Hello fellow soundtrack collectors!
I know alot of you are "score only" fans who don't normally go in for "songs," i.e. with vocals, but I wondering if anybody has any knowledge of this massive genre. I have been interested in picking up some good Bollywood stuff, especially older stuff from the 60's and funky stuff from the 70's. I already have, and love, both "Doob Doob A Rama" collections, the fabulous "Bombay Connection" and its companion "Bombshell Baby of Bombay". I also have "Kings and Queens of Bollywood" and the complete soundtrack to "Howarth Bridge" where the song "Mera Nam A Chim Chim" was originally used (see Doob Doob A Rama Vol.2). Are there any other stellar comps such as the ones above (I don't want any remix ones like "Bombay the Hard Way") or any single soundtrack that anybody might think worth picking up? Thanks for any help given!

Hey Eric,
I only own a handful of Bollywood soundtracks, and considering your musical tastes, here are a few that I own on CD that I think you'd really enjoy:
Armaan/Pyara Dushman (Bappi Lahiri)
http://www.soundtrackcollector.com/catalog/soundtrackdetail.php?movieid=53871
Featuring long (6+ minute) tracks, funky grooves and electronic bleeps and bloops, from the early 80's
Disco Dancer/Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki (Bappi Lahiri)
Sound samples here, but it's 'out of stock': http://www.musichouseltd.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?products_id=4223
Seems to be still available here: http://www.indiaplaza.com/music/pd.aspx?sku=90938&c=0
More funky disco grooves, with downright hilarious lyrics!
Salaam Bombay!

This one's not 'funky' like the others, but is probably my favorite Bollywood soundtrack of all time. Very powerful, moving music, especially if you've seen the film (which I HIGHLY recommend!). Many of the tracks have a groovy 'smooth jazz' sound, with a heavy Indian influence, featuring the composer's outstanding violin playing, and other tracks feature more traditional Indian songs and music, and there's at least two tracks from vintage Bollywood film musicals as well. This one's readily available and sound samples are available at major e-tailers.

P.S. I'd also recommend this comp, if you don't already have it:
