THE WALTONS Television scores

Hallo.

Iam wondering, if someday Filmscoremonthly (or someone else), will release the scores to the great series THE WALTONS?

Not only the music of Jerry Goldsmith is great (he wrote the music of the inoffical pilot "The homecoming", the title music to the series and the music to nearly 5 episodes)!

There are some great other composers (like Alexander Courage and Arthur Morton), witch did a great job on THE WALTONS.

There is specilly one great theme, witch can hear the first time in the beginning of the third season of the series and after then it was used as somewhat like the "second" theme of the Waltons.

I dont know exactly, who composed it(probebly Morton or Courage), but it was played in many different versions within the series and its truly great.

Anyway, the music of the first 5 seasons is deffenetly worth to be released.

And because of WARNER got the rights, it have to be possible to make a release!?

What do you think?

By the way, I dont know why, but I cannot be registrated in the forum of FILMSCOREMONTHLY.
Maybe someone of you could ask there how it looks like with a chance to release of the WALTONS?
That would be kind.

Greetings,

Jörn

I think that the only legit music available is from Silva's 40 years of film music collection.

Yes, it would be lovely if FSM does produce such a release along with tons of more original great television music from the 70's like Kojak, Baretta, Quincy, etc. besides Chips.

Airport 77 & 79, I will not mention again.

Perhaps you would like to email Lukas Kendal (cousin of David Kendall) and suggest and also inquire about the problems you are having with registration. He is quite responsive.

Harmonica player on all the great Goldsmith scores featuring the instrument is Tommy Morgan.

You suggest a great release! It's a wonder it has not already been done.

Hallo.

Well, I think, there would be a lot of people who would by such score. Not even the soundtrack (and Goldsmith)-freaks would spend theire money, also the many Waltons-Fans all over the world would do.

Unlike series like "MAN FOM UNCLE", "LOGANS RUN" or "PLANET OF THE APES", the Waltons are known by nearly everyone who is about thirty and older (its nearly such famos as STAR TREK around the world).
So I think, it would not be a problem to sell a limited release of 3000 or so.

It seems to be clear, that not ALL music of the series can be released (its run about nine years, so there must be hundreds hours of music).
But it should be possible to release two or three volumes ( as Filmscore Monthly did with "Man from Uncle" or Intrada with "Amazing Stories").

Anyway, it would be nice, if not only the Goldsmith scores of the series would see the light of the day, but also the Courage and the Morton scores.

The hope dies at last!

Good night, John-Boy.

Now there was a Walton's Christmas LP released around '72 with the theme and the family singing Xmas songs.

Grandpa (Will Geer) tells a holiday tale with Goldsmith scoring in the background.

Hallo.

Yeah, such LP exist. But the theme was not the original theme from the seriesand the songs werent sung by the actors of the Walton-kids.
Only Earl Hamner works as an narrator.
The only good part of that LP is the nice(but short), spech of Will Geer. And the cover of the LP.
The rest is junk!

By the way: Some years ago, there was a cd called THE WALTONS: TOGETHER AGAIN, where the original actors sing some christmas songs and read poems.
But as usuly, they dont use the original Waltons-theme, and the whole thing is a little bid nasty.

Nothing for someone whos looking for the sundtrack!

The album isn't junk. It's a curio that should be included in a time capsule and blasted into the solar system.

The piece with Gramps talkin' Christmas is the highlight I agree. The recording of the Goldsmith theme by Roger Kellaway isn't bad either.

I like it!

(PS) There is no Earl Hamner narration on the recording.
