Maurice Jarre
Is Maurice Jarre's music out of style and therefore no longer popular amongst soundtrack listeners nowadays? I posted a question about favourite French composers recently and do not recall having seen his name mentioned at all in spite of the overwhelming responses received on this forum.
Any thoughts?

Hello,
I answered your post of favorite French composers and Maurice Jarre was the first name on my list. I think he's great. I place him on my top 5 list of all time favorite film composers.
Best Regards,
David Phoenix, AZ.

How can a composer like Maurice Jarre be out of style?
Personally, I did not mention him because I was trying to think of French composers scoring mostly French films included in my collection of soundtracks. My knowledge on French films unfortunately is limited so I was sweating to give a decent response.
In another thread regarding 'emotional scores' by Jimmy Bond, most of the scores that came to mind without a second thought and which I realized afterwards, were mostly from Maurice Jarre.

I don't think this GIANT will ever be out of style even if today's producers might reject his music for crapolla of their choice.
PS
What French films has Maurice Jarre scored?

Friends are working with him on a documentary based on his career and related to the concert
he gave in Lyons last year and the man is still writing and composing mostly for him as a
passionate .
I don't think he still works for movies .
I have seen the first ten minutes of the documentary and the man is magic !! They will
broadcast it soon in the year on french TV and they're still trying to make a DVD of it .

If I didn't mention Maurice Jarre in that thread it was an accident.
The score from the film "The Collector" has been one of my personal favorites for years. His work with electronics during the 1980's is legendary.
I recently purchased two of his CD's.

Maurice Jarre is a Giant, with a clear style and a lot of masterpieces, you love or you hate his style!!!, and probably one of the few film composers in history that has been capable of "reborn" or made a comeback more than twice or three times when his career seemed ended
I meet him three times and is an exquisite and charming people

For what it's worth, I also listed M. Jarre as a favorite French composer.
