Question

Is this eBay seller reputable?

http://myworld.ebay.com/frankn7059/

I have no particular reason to suspect this eBay member of selling bootlegs, but considering the prevalence of bootlegs on eBay and the uselessness of feedback profiles in identifying bootleggers, I suspect any unfamiliar CD seller.

The guy has over 2000 positive feedback ratings. What more do you want, a quart of blood?

What I want is a relevant answer to my question. Feedback scores are entirely irrelevant to the issue of bootlegs on eBay. If I were so naive as to believe otherwise, then I would not hesitate to buy music from, say, eBay member animecast. He has more than 62,000 positive feedback ratings and a positive feedback ratio of 99.5%. By your sophistic reasoning, his inventory must be legitimate.

And yet this seller is widely reported to be a bootlegger. See, e.g., http://www.majesticmix.com/forums/archive/index.php?t-1935.html and http://www.chudahs-corner.com/reference/index.php?reference=bootleggers .

I am inclined to believe these reports. Take, for example, this auction: http://preview.tinyurl.com/2f5pt6 . If you have any familiarity with video game soundtracks, you know that a sealed copy of Shenmue Orchestra for sale for $9.99 cannot be legitimate.

Wrong: "usapoliticalitems" had around 120 positive feedbacks, the most in selling DVD´s. Don´t mention his name cause my blood pressure is growing

I don't run into these sort of problems on ebay, whatever the reason may be.

I'll look at someones feedback, check out the terrain and more often than not have a delightful ebay experience with someone out there in the world that I don't know from squat.

If my original response seems too simplistic for you, perhaps you have a tendency to overcomplicate things.

Bottom line; If you get taken on ebay, there are ways to make a persons life a living hell. All it takes is good old yankee know-how and a taste for revenge.

Judging from his current listings i would say he is genuine, although i can see where your coming from entyere, i got done a few years ago by a seller called re-animate, i was new to ebay and soundtrack collecting, a heavy price i paid!! Many bootleg sellers seem to get a high rating using legit CD's than start selling bootlegs under the guise and defense of there high seller rating and that they should be trustworthy, i go by the fact of checking against this database, other soundtrack sites and always paying by paypal for refunds if neeeded.
