5-Sep-2007 - Varèse Sarabande has released two fantastic scores from Patrick Doyle. The first one is As You Like It, in which Kenneth Branagh adapts Shakespeare’s lightest and most delightful comedy with a setting inspired by 19th century Japan. Patrick Doyle’s score is one of his best. It’s a ravishingly beautiful and exotic work which also has moments of thrilling drama. The score culminates in a spectacular Romance for Violin and Orchestra. Patrick’s Doyle’s As You Like It is one of the film music highlights of the year!
The second one from Patrick Doyle's hand is The Last Legion, a fantasy action-adventure in the vein of “The Sword and the Stone” set against the fall of Rome and its last emperor, 12-year-old Romulus Augustus, the boy who would rule for a day before losing all that he loved: his family, his home, and an empire that once stood for truth and honor. Patrick Doyle delivers a sweeping, epic symphonic score for large orchestra and chorus.<br> Also from Varèse Sarabande comes the score for The Invasion, a nightmarish journey into a world where the only way to stay alive is to stay awake. The mysterious crash of the space shuttle leads to the terrifying discovery that there is something alien within the wreckage. Those who come in contact with it are changing in ominous and inexplicable ways. The exciting score was composed by John Ottman.
