FSM's August releases
10-Aug-2005 - Film Score Monthly is re-releasing classics from the Colpix catalogue and here's another one, Lord Jim (1965). Bronislau Kaper's transcendent score features a powerful main theme and beautiful secondary melodies for Jim's spiritual journey and romance with a native girl. On the same CD The Long Ships (1963), a Viking adventure. The score by Yugoslavian composer Dusan Radic is an exciting sword-and-sandal-style effort with a stirring main theme and rhythmic setpieces. FSM's premiere CD features each LP program remastered from the original 1/4" stereo album tapes. In their Silver Age Classics series, FSM presents The Yakuza (1975), a beguiling American film set amongst the yakuza (gangsters) of Japan. This was the first collaboration between director Sidney Pollack and Dave Grusin, who provided a stylish, haunting and moody score blending Eastern and Western influences - a major work. This is the first-ever release of The Yakuza soundtrack, presented in complete form remixed and remastered in stereo from the original 2" multitracks.
