Sounds Of Cinecittà: The Silver Age Of Italian Film Music
13-Sep-2023 - Quartet Records presents Sounds Of Cinecitta, a collection of 6 CDs comprising nine obscure but oft-requested Italian scores from the Silver Age period of the ’60s and ’70s - undoubtedly the most fertile years of a unique cinematographic style that was admired and loved around the world. The Italian Silver Age was also an incredibly prolific and immensely popular era of film scoring that gave us the likes of Ennio Morricone, Bruno Nicolai, Piero Piccioni, Riz Ortolani, Armando Trovajoli, Stelvio Cipriani, Carlo Rustichelli, Piero Umiliani, Francesco De Masi, Luis Bacalov, Carlo Savina and Guido & Maurizio De Angelis, among many others. The 1960s and ’70s boasted an unmistakable flair for memorable tunes, great thematic variations and scores that could work exceptionally well on an album, away from their respective films.

Daniel Pemberton's The Bad Guys
1-Aug-2023 - Music on Vinyl has released the score for The Bad Guys, a 2022 animation feature film by DreamWorks Animation. The story follows a notorious fun-loving criminal animal crew. After a heist has gone wrong, the pack agree to become model citizens - or at least try to. The score was composed by Daniel Pemberton who is known for composing the score to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and its sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023). He has also composed the soundtrack for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017) and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015). Besides the original score, this soundtrack also features the songs "Good Tonight" feat. Anthony Ramos, "Feelin' Alright" by Elle King and "Brand New Day" by The Heavy. Ennio Morricone's Le Secret
19-Jul-2023 - Quartet Records, in collaboration with GDM and EMI General Music, presents a completely revised and remastered edition of Ennio Morricone’s classic score, Le Secret for the 1974 French polar directed by Robert Enrico and starring Jean-Louis Trintignant, Marlène Jobert and Philippe Noiret. Ennio Morricone composed a fascinating score, and one of its most beautiful and heartbreaking themes ("Dal Mare") features the wonderful voice of Edda Dell'Orso. The main theme, a melancholic melody suspended over the overlay of the sound of a drop of water and a harp chord, was an innovative idea and a trademark of Morricone in his prolific run of ’70s political thrillers. Alberto Iglesias' Extraña Forma De Vida
27-May-2023 - Quartet Records, in collaboration with El Deseo, presents the soundtrack of director Pedro Almodóvar and composer Alberto Iglesias for Sextraña Forma De Vida. It is a beautifully crafted 38-minute western, a short film produced by Yves Saint Laurent which has just premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to huge critical and audience acclaim. In Almodóvar’s own words, it’s his personal reckoning with BROKEBACK MOUNTAINAlberto Iglesias has composed a memorable, nostalgic and crepuscular symphonic score for orchestra and male choir - music that shows the fatalistic nature of the story and its impossible love.Although it’s a short piece—barely 20 minutes long—this score is of such quality and importance that we believe it should be digitally released, in a strictly limited CD edition of 500 units. For more info and ordering, visit Quartet Records.
Ken Thorne's Hannie Caulder
26-May-2023 - Quartet Records, in collaboration with Paramount Pictures, presents the premiere release of the Ken Thorne dynamic western score for the Rachel Welch movie Hannie Caulder (1971). The score composed by Ken Thorne complements the film’s wide variety of influences, from the rugged sounds of the Southern setting to evocative montages of Hannie’s development and fierce action cues for the various raids. With a handful of brutally dissonant passages as well as comedic cues thrown in, HANNIE CAULDER is a colorful, Coplandesque offering that will surely enchant all fans of the genre. This premiere CD includes the complete score—almost entirely in expansive stereo—restored and mastered by Chris Malone from pristine master tapes vaulted at Paramount. For more info and ordering, visit Quartet Records.

19-May-2023 -
Elmer Bernstein's Rat Race
12-May-2023 - La-La Land Records and Paramount Pictures present the world premiere release of legendary composer Elmer Bernstein’s original unused score to the raucous 2001 big-screen comedy Rat RaceHaving scored such legendary comedies as AIRPLANE!, ANIMAL HOUSE, GHOSTBUSTERS, STRIPES as well as many others, it’s no accident that Maestro Bernstein was initially the composer of choice for this madcap ensemble comedy in the vein of IT’S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD. Now for the first time, and with the blessing of the composer’s family, Bernstein’s take on the film is here for us all to enjoy and it’s an orchestral comic delight. The composer’s approach is as off-the-wall as it is classical – an impressively energetic and complex work of comedic scoring. For more info and ordering, visit La-La Land Records.
Piero Umiliani's Due Ragazzi Da Marciapiede
17-Apr-2023 - Quartet Records, in collaboration with Beat Records and Liuto Edizioni Musicali, presents the world premiere release of the catchy, infectious score by Piero Umiliani for the successful Spanish-Italian comedy No Deseriás Al Vecino Del 5° (aka Due Ragazzi Da Marcipiede)directed by Ramón Fernández. Piero Umiliani provided a memorable comedy score, with a theme typical of the composer (Oh che bella festa!) subjected to several variations, flirting with bossa nova, beat, swing, soft jazz and samba. Both the climate of extreme sensuality and the conflicts generated by the various misunderstandings of the film found a good ally in Umiliani’s score. The complete score has been made possible thanks to the cooperation of the Umiliani family who found the original tapes—mislabeled with the wrong title—with  the complete score in mint condition and beautiful stereo. Mastered by Chris Malone and supervised by Claudio Fuiano, the package included a 12-page booklet with liner notes by Spanish cinema specialist and documentarist Juan Sánchez. For more info and ordering, visit Quartet Records.
Morton Stevens' The Manions Of America
6-Apr-2023 - Dragon's Domain Records presents The Manions Of America, featuring music composed by Morton Stevens for the 1981 TV miniseries directed by Charles S. Dubin. Morton Stevens composed a splendid score for The Manions Of America, well-fitting the period and providing the show with a compelling main theme. Richly evocative of Irish and early Americana flavors, the music evokes both period and the elegant poignancy of drama, romance, and character. The score offers immersive themes of engaging complexity, full of ingenious orchestrations, maintaining and varying his themes effectively across the film's rich and lengthy visual tapestry. George Fenton's Allelujah
20-Mar-2023 - Quartet Records and MovieScore Media present the new score composed by George Fenton (THE COMPANY OF WOLVES, HIGH SPIRITS, SHADOWLANDS, MARY REILLY) for the film Allelujah, directed by Richard Eyre (NOTES ON A SCANDAL, IRIS, STAGE BEAUTY, this last one also scored by Fenton ) and based on the play by Alan Bennett. ALLELUJAH is a warm and deeply moving story about old age, a film that celebrates the spirit of elderly patients while paying tribute to the deep humanity of the medical staff battling with limited resources against ever-growing demand. George Fenton provides a delightful, moving, dramatic and highly delicate score with thick orchestral colors, beautifully orchestrated and featuring a haunting main theme. For more info and ordering, visit Quartet Records.
Klaus Badelt's The Time Machine
4-Mar-2023 - Varèse Sarabande has released The Time Machine, the first solo score by Klaus Badelt, then working for Hans Zimmer, but soon to have a prominent career of his own: Pirates Of The Carribean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl, Constantine, The Promise, Poseidon and many more. Badelt wrote a sweeping, magnificent, fan-favorite score for The Time Machine. The music is acoustic and symphonic, befitting the aesthetics of the 19th century protagonist, and the grand, romantic adventure he takes across time. The orchestra is embellished with tribal music for Earth’s future denizens, and aggressive, modernist stylings for the terrifying Morlocks—all of it beautifully produced for a modern blockbuster. This Deluxe Edition expands the album to 23 tracks and 76 minutes. For more info and ordering, visit Varèse Sarabande.
Kevin Kiner's Black Scorpion
2-Mar-2023 - Dragon’s Domain Records presents the original soundtrack to Black Scorpion, featuring music composed by Kevin Kiner for the 1995 action film. Produced by Roger Corman, BLACK SCORPION was a 1995 Showtime film, starring Joan Severance as police detective Darcy Walker, secretly known to a small few as the Black Scorpion. After her father is murdered before her eyes, detective Darcy becomes the vigilante Black Scorpion to avenge him. Kiner’s score was primarily synths, but he did manage to include a handful of live players. The film is scored in the manner of a standard detective thriller, with tense percussion and mostly synth elements, but once Darcy dons her black leather outfit and roars around the City of Angels in her Scorpionmobile, Kiner reprises his action vibe with strings, winds, and heavy percussion. Philippe Sarde's Mort D'Un Pourri
1-Mar-2023 - In collaboration with Warner Chappell Music France, Music Box Records continues to explore the collaboration between Philippe Sarde and Alain Delon, and presents the complete score for Mort D'Un Pourri (Death of a Corrupt Man). The music does not go for the expected codes of the thriller genre: there is little action, few effects, few twists and turns. This great score is one of Philippe Sarde’s most beautiful and emblematic works, performed by the famous London Symphony Orchestra and carried by Stan Getz’s saxophone, the musical embodiment of a solitary character and the archetypal instrument of the American film noir. This edition has been fully remastered from all-new hi-res transfers of original stereo mixes and features previously unreleased tracks. For more info and ordering, visit Music Box Records.
John Barry's Chaplin
10-Feb-2023 - La-La Land Records, StudioCanal and Sony Classical celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the 1992 big-screen biographical drama Chaplin with a newly remastered, deluxe presentation of the film’s original motion picture score by John Barry. Barry’s notable and elegant orchestral score, considered one of late composer’s last great works for the cinema, is an integral part of this creative and thoughtful chronicling of the career of the great Charlie Chaplin. Romantic, dramatic, comedic and more, Barry’s diverse and thematically rich original score, recorded at Abbey Road with the English Chamber Orchestra, also interpolates a number of Chaplin’s own music compositions such as “Smile” and his scores to CITY LIGHTS and LIMELIGHT. This special limited edition CD presentation is expanded with previously unreleased material. For more info and ordering, visit La-La Land Records.
Ennio Morricone's The Sicilian Clan
10-Dec-2022 - Quartet Records, in collaboration with Fox Records, Island Def Jam and Universal Music Enterprises, presents a remastered and expanded edition of Ennio Morricone’s iconic score The Sicilian Clan. The memorable score by Ennio Morricone consists of an evocative, idiosyncratic main theme that is developed in four distinctive elements throughout the score. Morricone’s music was often marked by unusual instrumental and effects; in this score, those include a distinctive “Sicilian boing” and the whistling of Alessandro Alessandroni. The score was released worldwide by Fox Records (except in Italy, where the rights belong to CAM) in a brilliant, beloved 30-minute album that has been reissued on LP and CD several times. This CD includes the remastered album and also several versions—differing in length and orchestration—that Morricone recorded for the slightly different American and European cuts of the film. For more info and ordering, visit Quartet Records.
John Barry's Mary, Queen Of Scots

But while the album contained most of the score’s highlights, it ran just 28 minutes, or a little more than half of what Barry had recorded at London’s CTS studio. This CD marks the first release of the entire score, thanks to the recent discovery of previously unknown tape rolls in the Universal vaults. Included are the remastered original Decca album in stereo and the score presentation in mono, as it has survived. For more info and ordering, visit Quartet Records.
